Blackhawks have the best top 4 dman in NHL?

Martin and Michalek have played enough for people to know what to expect from them, regardless of a team change. Your opinion though...

Hey, if these were power rankings, there would be a big UP arrow next to the Pens....the potential is there for sure. They may have a top 4 defense by the middle of the season but I could only justify giving them an "incomplete" at this point.

Our rookie wings are huggggggge question marks. Two of the top 5 FA defensemen are not. I'm not the least bit concerned with the blueline, and I doubt Bylsma is losing sleep over it either.

Neither were the Rangers when they signed Redden and traded for Morris, or signed Roszival or Rucinsky. I am just saying this is not Pronger and Lidstrom we are talking about.

See that is just "swampy" (yet not unexpected) of you. I never said word one about Washington's defense. It is average at best and has a lot of question marks as well. Washington was not even in the conversation but because I pissed in your gold and black stiller flakes a little bit you responded like a petulant child.


Done with this...I presented my opinion on the teams mentioned and backed it up with decent logic. I am not going to be dragged down to maddog talk...

Here is the thing:

If you have to bring 2 new guys into the fold to fill out your top 4, there are huggggge question marks and there should be an uneasy feeling in Pittsburgh about the blue line. I read the papers and listen to the radio, so I know that there isn't among th fans and commentators, but I damn sure bet that there is in the coaches offices. When you add players, you never know what you are going to get. Martin has a good resume to look at and project from. Michalek is harder to judge based on the fact he spent the majority of his career on a bad team. Either way, it does not say much about your defense when your projected top 4 have guys that you had to bring in from elsewhere.

An improvement is an improvement is an improvement...they really had nowhere to go but up

EDIT: But I'm not ready to put the Penguins in the top 5 yet.

Forget the cap hits, in terms of raw talent and effectiveness Chicago is easily top three in the league in terms of top four defense. I can see arguments for Philly and Detroit in that same boat, with LA, Pittsburgh, and Vancouver close behind. I'm not entirely sure Chicago is the clear cut winner here, but I can definitely buy the argument.

Yeah I like Chicago's defense. I wouldn't call them the best top 4, but that claim isn't too far off.
