Yeah every city has bandwagonners. The difference is that Pittsburgh has a smaller population from which to draw than most other cities so they depend more heavily on their bandwagonners for attendance. In larger markets like NYC, Philly, Toronto, Montreal etc. the games are going to sellout anyway no matter how well the team is doing. The bandwagonners just determine how far in advance they sell out, how much profit ticket scalpers can make, and merchandise sales.

In hockey that may be true in the cities you mentioned. Although, the Islanders are within smelling range of the big apple, and subsequently one of the largest populations in North America, and they certainly don't sell out.

My point was that regardless of population size, teams that aren't successful still struggle to draw attendance/support. A perfect example of this is the LA Dodgers. The team is mired in bankruptcy and ownership uncertainty (sound familiar pittsburgh fans:rolleyes:).... their attendance has taken a major hit because of it. And this team has been one of the best draws in baseball the past ten years.
