So know that we have had time for moves to sink in and all, who do you believe has had the best offseason? My first instinct would be for me to say the Caps because I love what they did this offseason. But honestly, I think with what the Sabres have done, they have had the best offseason. They spent a lot of money but on very good players and I see them getting atleast to the ECF this season.

What about your team? Like what they did?

----------------------------------------------------------
Like I said, I love what the Caps did this offseason:
-Resigned liach
-signed gritty guys and you can never have too many of them
-signed Vokoun cheep
-traded Varly away for 2 picks in a deep draft next season
-Signed Boyd Gordon's replacement in Halpern much cheeper
-Have great D Depth
Only 2 things that I didn't particularly like and they were the Fehr trade, but someone was going to be moved, and Semin wasn't traded

I agree with the Sabres. Gonna be a battle between us and them for the NE division.

I like trading Heatley, I think we overpaid for Burns (but the final verdict on that will depend on if he re-signs or not).

Overall I am excited that niether Wallin or Huskins we be anywhere near our roster.

i'm pretty happy with the wings offseason. got some pretty good players on the cheap, enough to fill some holes. nothing spectacular, but really there was nothing spectacualr to be had this offseason. one thing i like about holland, he doesn't seem to be too caught up in the moment and every move he makes seems to be part of a bigger overall plan, like he's making signings not just for this offseason, but keeping in mind the next 4-5 years, hence, the amount of cap room he has this season and going forward, when some bigger names might be out there to fill in some bigger holes.

update from here: http://www.sportshoopla.com/forums/...ssion/37468-rate-how-your-team-did-today.html
Canucks B+

the good...
- kept Bieksa. that was the key going into this summer.
- kept Higgins. Versatile, good skill.
- we have 8 solid d-men.

the bad...
- lost Ehrhoff. unfortunate, but that's fine. good for him.
- missed out on Cole, or other upgrade to line 2. they were all getting pretty hefty salaries, wouldn't have wanted to overpay (Fleishman, for example)

the unknown...
- gained Marco Sturm. i just don't know. can he regain the 25+ goal scoring form? not sure about that one.
- with Glass gone, we NEED someone able to fight Hordichuk/Eager, Carcillo, etc. paging Zenon Konopka!!!
- next priority has to be Hansen.

since then we've loaded up on guys who can fight it out for the 4th line.
didn't get Zenon, but one of Mancari, Pinnizotto, Duco, Bitz, Winchester should be able to fill the void.

still B+, but something tells me we might not be done with line 2.

I think Feaster did okay, but there's just too many "if's" with the Flames:

- If Stajan is recovered from his shoulder injury
- If Langkow can stay healthy
- If JayBo can step up his game
- If Kipper can get a rest every once in a while

The Sens have had a good summer so far, IMO. The team isn't going to compete for a cup this year (or probably next), so it's all about the future.

Good:
- They got a high upside 2nd center in Zibanejad; he brings speed grittiness and work ethic to the table in the coming years.
- They added a gritty power forward in Noesen; some are making comparisons in skills and style to Corey Perry. I'd be OK with a Perry clone on the Sens in 4-5 years.
- They got a good goal scoring prospect in Puempel; projects to something between Brad Boyes and Dany Heatley (shudder).
- Got some nice late round sleepers who could develop into NHL players in Prince and Pageau.
- Got Filatov for a 3rd round pick. All reward and no risk for a rebuilding team here, IMO.
- Signed Auld to a 1-year deal. Needed a short-term solution to back up Anderson... good move.

Bad:
- Filip Kuba remains a Senator.
- Missed out on adding a top 6 forward. Would have liked to see J. Jokinen or Fleishmann sign, but they exceeded the Sens budget.

Meh:
- Signed Zenon Konopka; just another 4th liner; maybe he plays well and get a 3rd rounder at the deadline.
- Extended Brian Murray for 3 years; I would have liked to see some young blood take over as GM but Murray has a good eye for young talent.

Unknown:
- Hired Paul Maclean; on the surface this looks like a good move. Let's see how Maclean handles head coaching duties with a young club. No more coaching the Lidstroms of this world.

All in all I am happy with the way the Sens are rebuilding.

I'd say that the Sabres made the biggest jump and the Caps and Flyers made the right moves for the long term.

I'm also very impressed with the teams that held there ground and stuck with minor moves. Vancouver, Boston, Pittsburgh and Tampa are good examples. They all had some losses, but nothing that they shouldn't be able to overcome.

I think I'll give the Flyers a B- or C+

Good:
Trading Richards for Simmonds and Schenn
- i think that's great value for richards and i think he needed a change of scenery. it has been 3-4 years of long slumps for the flyers. every season him and carter had the reigns the team would take a few months off at different points in the season. it was unbearable watching the team float around and do nothing for a month. he had the ability and heart to be a huge difference maker night in and night out, it was frustrating to see him take nights off.. the flyers needed to move cap space, for this season, and for the future.. getting rid of two 10+ year contracts improved their flexibility 10 fold.

Trading Carter for the 8th pick (Couturier) and Voracek
- Considering Couturier slid to the flyers at 8, this is a great trade for the flyers. potential superstar and a quality top 6 guy that still has potential to grow. also see mike richards comment

Signing Bryzgalov
- Wanted Vokoun badly, even before the contract came out and my eyes popped out of my head. I would've liked Vokoun at 4.5-5. However, the flyers still improved goaltending immensely and it was something they needed to do.

Breaking Penguin Hearts
- signing talbot and jagr ripped out the hearts of many pittsburgh fans, and i will love that every time

The 'Meh'

Signing Jagr
- i think its a good 1 yr risk.. the flyers need some scoring and need some help on the PP and jagr can provide that. i hated him, but those feelings have subsided over the past what 8 years? since he's been with the pens

The Bad

Signing Max Talbot
- i hate that piece of shit. luckily for him, he is exactly what the flyers needed.. a gritty team guy that gives everything every night. so he will be in a position to make up for his past sins, but he cant do that until October, so for now, he's part of the bad

Jody Shelley
- still 'plays' for the flyers. for now.

Didnt address the dinosaur like defense
- pronger and timonen are on their last legs, they could've used a young d-man that could help replace these guys in a few years

It's the offseason?? The fax machine must be broken because Garth didn't get the memo. His phone must be broken or it could be that Chuck didn't pay the bill. All I know is this offseason has been a joke for Islanders fans.

I know Isles fans (at least you; I don't know any others) feel that this team can be competitive right now, but they aren't going to contend for a Cup this year. With the prospects that the Isles have in their cupboard I think it could be a good move to wait one more year before filling in holes. I would be a fan of seeing how the likes of Nino, De Haan, Hamonic, Okposo, Bailey et al. progress before making any big moves.

I honestly think that the Isles could sneak into a 7-8 seed (it'll be very tough in that division though) but they won't make a serious playoff run until 2012-2013 at the earliest. The future is bright on the Island, IMO.

All that being said Garth needs to drag their asses up to the cap floor pronto.

Wings didn't do too bad. Hell, I'd say they did as well as they could have without overpaying for anyone. Sure, they could have had Ehrhoff, Wizniewski, or Jagr, but at the price those guys were asking I'm glad Holland didn't make an offer. We lost Rafalski, Osgood, Draper, and... that other guy. We gained Commodore, White, Conklin, and some stuff. I'm a little disappointed in the Ericsson contract, but I'm looking forward to seeing Mursak and Kindl in bigger roles.

Richards and Carter-Great Return, should pay off.

Bryz-I love the cap hit, his lack of NMC or NTC makes the 9 years inexistent in my eyes.

Talbot-Nice 4th liner, okay hit

Jagr=I like it for a 1 year deal.

All in all I am happy with the way the Sens are rebuilding.

Now that I've had time to digest it, I am with you. I think Filatov is just a younger, less talented Kovalev, but what's he really hurt there? I'm just Glad the Jackets managed to unload him. He could take a lot of negative spotlight away from developing guys, and that's never a bad thing. especially with the Media up there.

I think the Sens did most everything right except for retaining Murray. It's like tipping 20% to a waiter who never refilled your drink. Stop rewarding bad behavior.

I like what the Jackets have done, although it is somewhat of a pre-flop all in. There's some negative mojo around Carter, but most of it comes from Flyer Fans, so you have to assume it's mostly lies. Wiz is a solid pickup, and they could have done WAAY worse than Prospal when Huselius went down.

Not comfortable with 110% of the goaltending weight falling on Mason, but he DID react well his rookie season when that happened. Time will tell.

I like what the Sabres did to get the defense solid. It may take time for chemistry to set in but when it does that defense in front of a great goalie that last year was left out to dry should be just fine.

The cap limited them from getting more help up front but people forget Roy was having a career season before he got injured and if they team him with Vanek should be a good combo.

They are not the best team but could be dangerous esp if The Miller is hot.

I can't wait for the season to start.

Damn ! I'm stuck at 1300 rep's! I hate 13.....superstitious. :boss:
