LOL..Shelby already did that years ago...
I'm not a big fan of the Corvette, but the independent rear suspension was huge in their development. It kept the tires on the ground for sure.

It looks like 1968 Corvette is a direct rip-off of the 1964 Banshee GM refused to build.

I think you could order this car, take it home, do a little work to it, and it's turning into the 12's, but you had to order the car the right way. No A/C for one thing. Probably 3.73 rear is as good as you could get and that's w/o a/c. 4spd or Automatic would get it there I think. I think the best you could get an Automatic to do is 13 flat or 13.2. Those are some good numbers from a factory car. The only company staying with cubic inches.
The Automatic could take a 3.08 at best, but I think you put 3.31 12 bolt in it
or a 3.55 on the high end.

I wish I had my father's car history (he went through most of the 60s and early 70's Mopar classics, including hemis and max wedge cars), but I've had a few classics/muscle cars. Not my actual cars, but the pictures are close...

Had a '77 Formula Firebird (400) as my second car (after a '79 Dodge Aspen 225ci).

Had that for a few years until I got my '67 Mustang Coupe (289). Was red, later repainted black, had that for almost 20 years. (The Firebird held on for a few years as a winter car before I sold it).

With the Mustang getting near 200k and starting to rust, sold that and moved to my current ride, a 2005 Magnum RT (hemi).

Miles are getting up there on the Magnum, time for a new ride is coming up (if I can get my finances in order....)

My first new car was a 1977 Can Am.
So I'm nominating it for this thread. :D
Fun cars.

The AMC Machine was very cool.

It had under its hood a 4.6-liter V8 producing 340 horsepower.

Nice choices.
Very Nice.

Pony cars.

Muscle car.

I'm thinking that those cars outgrew their pony car status when they put the CJ429 and SD455 in them.

I remember those cyclones, a guy at my high school had one. It was really fast, when it ran at all.

I fully agree, the lines between muscle/pony/sports cars has blurred more and more since the early '70's.
I had a buddy who's old man had a '71 Torino with the ram air 429 and that thing was rock solid dependable.
Always wanted that car or one close to it.

Those were beautiful cars. I've always wanted a 69 Charger or Chevelle SS.

But to be fair, when people talk about 70's muscle, it's almost always in the context of low compression.
There were some cars from 1970 that were hardcore, and ford and chrysler went through 1971 with some high compression cars, but really, I would group those cars in with the 1960's muscle.

No GM car after 1970 had high compression, and nothing past 1971 for ford and dodge.

The best low compression muscle car ever produced was the 1973 SD455 Trans Am. Nobody came close to it and in fact everybody else abandoned the market entirely with some truly pathetic drive train combinations.
