Feb 2, 2011 edition from Grant at McCovey Chronicles:

Think about the things we didn’t worry about at this time last year:

* Pablo Sandoval slumping for a year or two
* Pat Burrell hitting on your sister
* Buster Posey’s aura coming through the slats in the vertical blinds at night, making it really hard to sleep

Not one of those things was a concern last spring like they all are this spring.

How about Brian Wilson introducing your daughter to The Machine?

Or Jeff Suppan taking Barry Zito's spot in the rotation, thus making him the highest paid mop-up guy (or minor leaguer) in the history of baseball. I guess that isn't really a concern being a sunk cost and all, but man, the house he could buy in Fresno.

One concern this spring that no one had last spring is anything related to Miguel Tejada, but that isn't as funny as it is true.

Cmon, now. Barry is a solid #3/#4 pitcher on an average team. It's not like he's a fringe ML starter -- he's legit. Massively overpaid, but legit.

I'm not too worried about Buster Posey's aura either, but you have to admit that it is at least within the realm of possibility that Zito could lose his starting job on this team. He lost it in the playoffs. I don't think it will happen, and I certainly wish him the best because I like his attitude, the Giants and his taste in music, but it is a funny scenario to think about. Barry Zito in Fresno. It's like Elton John in Wyoming.

Zito could buy a couple farms too to go with that house.

Sure, it's possible, but not very likely. Barry 'lost' it in the playoffs for two reasons:
1. We have four STUD starters; and
2. We shortened the rotation.

I'd be pretty shocked if Barry loses his starting spot absent injury.

I'd love it if he were traded, though. Don't he Yankee$ need a starter?
