I would go with Cousins, Hene, Hill didnt look too bad for the Lions.. Mallett has potential but dotn know what he would do in a starter role..

Has and still can are very distinctly different.

True but has is still light years better than never has.

TJ Yates played well a few years ago.

Fitzpatrick has starting and back up experience.
Cousins came in and won a few games.
Matt Moore is the same way started and backed up and had some success.

If what you've done on the field means anything, then Tebow has to be at the top of the list. Also, I think a very underrated backup who never really got a fair shot is Colt McCoy.

It doesnt. The ONLY thing that matters is how tight of a spiral you can throw, how fast and long you can throw it for and if you look like an NFL QB. Obviously.

Orton isn't going to carry a team to a championship but in terms of managing a game he's a pretty solid backup.

Mallett?

Can't even remember him playing or running a team for more than a few series.

Sanchez sucks period #1, #2, or #3 he blows.

I like Cousins but a few games does not really give you a good read on his ability. Remember he was not drafted to highly and was taken as a pure backup.

Buys like Stanton, Hill, Hoyer are clip board holders plain and simple. I think they are the best backups because they are good in that role. I think too many guys that aspire to be starters create a flaw when given a chance. They try to hard and don't play in their ability.

True. What about being able to throw from your knees? Forgot to add that one to the list. Didn't Jamarcus Russell do that well?

That only matters if you do it wearing only shorts. No actual football gear. Thats important.

True but has is still light years better than never has.

There are 2 types of backup QB's: Those that have earned the job as backup and those that have not yet earned the job as starter. Which you choose for your backup has a lot to do with who you have as a starter.

I'd rather take the guy who hasn't had a shot and has upside than the guy you know has nothing left.

Tebow isn't a backup quarterback.

Exactly.

And to answer my own question about Rosenfels, he retired the other day lol.

Well he's backing up Mallett...

unless he's going to play TE?

 but seriously, he's a third stringer, and if someone seriously wants to bring tebow's name up they should concede Mallett is 100x the option off the bench.
