Now, having said that, I have no issue with either of the Steeler fans who have posted here, and you, of course, are welcome to chat with me at any time. If it takes a few minutes to get back to you, it's not because I'm hiding, it's because I'm busy. As for the $40 million under the cap, that's precisely the reason Mike Brown should have offered the moon to Matt Hasselbeck.

It wasn't even the profanity that was banned on ESPN. It was random words that often made no sense. There was even a number banned, and not 666. It was a 3-digit number, I don't remember it. There was also random words that I can't for the life of me figure out why were banned.

The minimum salary cap number for teams individually doesn't kick in until 2013. The first 2 years of the CBA, the teams collectively have to reach at least 99% of the total cap.

Furthermore, keep in mind that "minimum salary cap" spend includes signing bonuses. So, the Bengals can be $40 million under and just allow the remainder to be made up by the signing bonuses of teams that have reached the salary cap.

Looking at it 2 years down the road, teams like the Bengals will reach their 99% minimum including signing bonuses in their total salary and quit right there. On the other hand the teams that are actually willing to spend money, they'll give players larger signing bonuses and a smaller yearly salary to allow themselves to maximize the amount they have available to spend on players.

So, end of the day, in 2 years, the Bengals will still be losers, just not as big as they've been in the past.

What I'm not sure about yet is how signing bonuses will calculate into a team's salary. It won't be the full amount, but just like in the past, there will be a formula to calculate how much counts against the cap.

Al's been a bad owner of late, but at least he has had many successes over the years. He has some Lombardi trophies in the building. Mike Brown has nothing.

You also can't say Al doesn't want to win. He spends the money. Sure he may suck at it, but at least he tries. Brownie boy only cares about his bottom line.

Al Davis is too caught up in measurables. Russell could throw it a mile, so that was what Davis focused on, not the important things. Same with receivers: draft them for speed, who cares if they can't catch.

Yeah pretty much

Russell could throw it a mile but problem is he does that every time, causing many overthrows.

plus JaMarcus Russell was also a bum.

Yeah, Russell is going to go down as one of the top 5 draft busts of all time, probably top 3.
