Free agent RB Ben Tate will work out for the Lions on Tuesday.

It's Tate's second workout in the past couple weeks after he tried out for the running back-needy Cowboys in late May. Tate has garnered little interest since flopping badly with the Browns and Vikings last season. He's still just 28 (in August) and was viewed as the top free-agent runner last offseason. In Detroit, this may be a sign that Joique Bell (Achilles', knee) isn't close to 100 percent.

We've had a lot of guys for visits. This is kick the tires in case you need to replace training camp bodies.

Bell had 3 surgeries, it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out he is questionable. Especially since we also drafted 2 RBs (well 1 UDFA). Bell could be anywhere from 100% to career ended depending on how his body reacts. And no one knows exactly what that will be. No one. Not even him yet.

It remains to be seen if Zenner will be ready to handle the big back role full time so a veteran big back being brought in until the final cuts is a no brainer.
