His trade value took an initial hit but nothing that couldn't have been worked around given his other skills and the fact that most organizations think they can "get through" to a player.

But when a respected coach like Doc, basically says that he's given up on the guy and the organization gives tacit approval by not defending him...that cratered his trade value.

Basically, Doc's statement told the rest of the league that Simmons is uncoachable and has no heart. While that may well be true...you can't say it when you're trying to move a guy.

bingo.

right on target.

There was no need for that to escape the locker room.

This really isn't as hard as sixers fans want to make it out to be.

I think if that were true we would be seeing all kinds of players speak up, they are not. They know Simmons.

Not necessarily. Players normally won't comment about another players situation. Especially during something like this. It's why you don't really see players commenting on Kyrie or Rogers in the NFL.

They typically won't comment because as long as he's in the league, they know Simmons could be a teammate one day.

What I mean is if they thought he was getting mistreated you can bet your ass they would be speaking up. They are not.

To be fair, they are fans who supported and defended him for his whole career and now he has essentially shit on them and their team.

They are pissed and have every right to be.

Unfortunately, it also keeps them from clearly seeing the Sixers role in this.

This is making the whole Lakers/Pelicans/AD trade look standard and uneventful. lol

Again, not really. And for essentially the same reason...one day they may be on that team, or may want to be on that team.

Its actually fairly rare for a player to criticize another organization. They're more likely to criticize their own organization.

Sorry but we would have heard from Lebron if the players didn’t know the score.

Doubtful. He has no issue speaking out on the league, society in general, etc. he doesn't say a lot about other players or teams.

I mean, he could say all kinds of shit about Kyrie and the Cavs, but never really has.

And you're both wrong. It's not about coddling Ben, it's about keeping his trade value as high as possible to prevent what is happening now. The fact that the Sixers and their fans can't grasp this is why it's looking like your going to get through Embiids prime years without so much as a finals trip...let alone, a title.
I got no horse in this race but....fuck Ben Simmons. Whiney ass bitch deserves all the criticism he gets. Didn't want to play in Philly then he shouldn't have signed t he contract.

The AD situation was ugly but ultimately his trade value was clear. So they could send him home and it wasn't going to affect his trade value.

With Simmons, his trade value was at is nadir before any of this started. Which made a trade really tough BEFORE all the nonsense.

I honestly think that Simmons may wind up being a Sixer until next summer.

And if he keeps being a bitch I'd like to see the sixers file a grievance to get a year of his rights back in their pocket too....

I agree. But if they want to get anything of value for him, they have to "play the game".

If you're trying to sell a used car, you don't tell the buyer what a lousy car it is, how much you hate it, and how you can't wait to get it out of your driveway.

To be clear, I'm not on Simmons side in this. I hope that when he eventually does end up someplace else, Sixers fans give him the greeting he deserves (and that only Philly fans can give) when his team plays there. That will be must see TV. lol

At the rate this is going and what Moreys stance seems to be...you may very well be right.

Morey has the backing of the fans, media and ownership. So I think he is going to be entirely willing to keep him for the entire year and not trade. Trading him for pennies on the dollar would be far risky for him personally.

Now if the Sixers go into the tank hard that may change. But right now, he should be sending candy and flowers to Tyrese Maxey because his play is making Simmons absense a heck of a lot more palatable.

Neither do I.

And, I think both sides have a point.

Both Morey and Doc have a history with this type of situation.

For Morey, why draft a guy like White? Yes, he flew to several games in College. But, he also opted out of some , in favor of driving, when his anxiety was high.

There is zero chance the Rockets weren't aware of this. I mean, it all went to shit because White asked for a mental health clause in his contract. That alone should have made them pause.

As for Doc, name a stop when his locker room wasn't anarchy? He has a habit of going in on former players and he could have softened the blow to Simmons very fragile ego. He chose violence instead.

Both these guys bear some responsibility for this clusterfuck. So does the 76ers Organization and their fanbase. I mean, didn't Fultz have a similar meltdown?

With that being said, I don't believe a word of what Rich Paul and Simmons are saying. This clown wants to get paid for NOT WORKING.

Do I think he has some anxiety issues? Yes.

How else to explain his refusal to shoot?

But, I also think he'd be playing right now had the 76ers bent to his will.

This shit is a power play on both sides.

they didn't want him gone until he started acting like a little bitch at the end of the offseason.

after the playoffs we said "that can't happen again, be better Ben"

there was no hate, just a lot of frustration. He still contributed, but with the hype he was getting from guys like Lebron, he needs to bring more.

That is a lie.

The overwhelming Philly fan reaction as soon as the playoffs ended was “trade him. Trade him for anyone. Get him out of here”.

That is when Simmons started acting out. After 6er fans expressed that he wasn’t wanted.

I just don’t think a single basketball person was swayed in the least by what he said. The damage was done by his play on the court.

Ben Simmons was sure swayed by it.

Yeah we don’t even know that. It’s not the Sixers job to placate him his whole career anyway , enough was enough.

And as has been said countless times,

That is all well and good. But do it behind closed doors. Not through the media.
