I think the point would be to eliminate the chance that it can effect the team. If they wait until it effects the team, it mat already be too late for them to recover this season.

It seems fine now, but what happens when it's January or February and the coaches and players are starting to get tired of hearing about Simmons?

Well January is a long ways off. One way or the other, things will be quite different with him. Either he will be traded, playing with the team or playing Xbox.

I'm not the biggest Doc fan. I find him to be an overrated coach who rests on the laurels of all time talented team in Boston that only won a single title.

But blaming him for the Simmons stuff is silly. He made a single comment that was a passive-aggressive jab at an All-Star that had an all time terrible playoff series. That Simmons chose to be a hurt child about it rather than take ownership is a Simmons problem, not a Doc problem.

Doc was constantly gushing about Simmons all of last year and protecting him. Simmons has an atrocious series and Doc makes sideways comment and you think the problem is Doc? Not sure what meetings you are referring to.
