I'm definitely happier with Crick than Juan and that contract (even with the middle infield issues/injuries this year). Unless Uribe is pulling a Huff and will be back to 100% (maybe 120) next year, I think you can chalk another one up for special agent Ned, officially.

OT: Does Eugenio ever get another 75 PAs in a Major League uni? 100?[/QUOTE]

I don't see how...but you never know...

I can't justify giving him a roster spot if I'm a GM. What org doesn't have a fast player with a little pop in his bat?

I mean....teh Pharoah doesn't hit for average...is horrible defensively...can't steal bases though he's fast...and has all the baseball instincts of a small tabby cat...

Sounds like we're setting the over-under at 1. :)

I think he will catch on SOMEWHERE, and he will destroy their AAA league and the big club will be suckered into giving him a shot.

Over/under on 75 career PA's: under, but I would not place the bet.

Over/Under on 1 career PA: over, and I would bet the house.

What about 25? Over? Under? One mortgage payment? 1/2 a payment? 1/4?

(Sorry. I never gamble [aside from the occasional Fantasy pool and NCAA brackets], but the system and discussions intrigue me.)

REALLY, the only "gambling" I do is poker (and I don't really consider that gambling). I will take sure-things when in Vegas, but that is about the extent.

As for AU, I don't think I would bet on much other than 1 PA or so. I think he will get a shot, but he could then do one of his patented Windsor-Knot routes in the outfield and the team will DFA him the next day. He could get 1 PA, he could get hot and get 300 (his bat has potential).

Put a gun to my head, however, I would say if he gets more than 100 PAs, I would be shocked.

I think you are way off and an apology is due.........

The tabby cat has far more baseball instincts than AU.

AU's 2011 line:

34 G 37 AB 5 R 0 H 0 2B 0 3B 0 HR 1 RBI 1 SB 0 CS 2 BB 11 K
Avg .000
OBP .075
SLG .000
OPS .075
OPS+ -77
WAR -0.7

That is the lowest OPS+ I've ever seen. Awesome.

Good article on Beltran:

SF Giants need to sign Carlos Beltran

Back of the envelope projection for 2012 as a Giant:

145 games, 23 HR 86 RBI 3.3 WAR

That puts his market value at $14.9MM, give or take.

2/30 plus a $15MM option for 2014 if he plays in 280 games in 12/13 or 150 games in 2013?

If we backload Timmy, might be doable...

Not to mention how he helps the general feel of the lineup with him in the middle of it.

I just have a feeling we will be outbid by more than 1 team. Carlos has no attachment to SF.

I'm too lazy to look back at your payroll breakdown, where would that scenario leave SabeySabes? At the Budget Ceiling? Room for Crisp or Sizemore?

For arguments sake, consider it without the Rowand money. I'm going off of the assumption that his money was placed into the overages for last year's budget (EDIT: like the money they expect to take on at the deadline every year; even though it was after the trade deadline and significantly higher than anything they would normally take on).

I dunno....he really seemed to like the stadium and the fans. If we're in the general vicinity of the best offer, he might just re-up here.

Nobody can match our pitching.

NOOOOOOOOOBODY.

I think the Giants are in the situation now where they do not have to BEAT all other offers, they just need to put forward a competitive offer. Especially for a guy at the end of his career, where he is not playing for his NEXT contract.

These are the kinds of things fans say to convince themselves their team can defy the laws of player greed. Just sayin'.

These really need to be posted somewhere. Is there more than just: "1. Whoever gives me the most money, wins."?

That's the overarching one but there are corollaries like:

2. "Among similar offers, go to the team with the best chance for me to win a ring"

3. "Among similar offers, go to the team with the hitterest park (hitters) or pitcherest park (pitchers)"

4. Tiebreaker: states with no income tax, US over Toronto

5. If I know I'm a lollygagger who only plays hard in contract years, go for longer deals over max money

Etc

I agree with all of these. #2 specifically leads the Giants to be one of the teams that now only needs to put forward a competitive offer vs the best offer to get a guy.

#6 would be "If I have had a HOF or near HOF career but have no rings, rule #2 plays stronger." Getting a ring certainly counts towards greed as much as money.

But are the Giants any stronger on #2 than the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers....all of whom could also beat us on #1?
