In the words of Gene Hackman's character in Enemy of the State, he told Will Smith, "You're either very smart... or incredibly stupid."

Personally I'm not gonna get excited about a backup QB. Hard to imagine him as anything more than a #3 QB on the depth chart. And even if he impresses Trestman to be the #2 QB, he will probably never see the field.

I don't know about that. Cutler has missed 8 games in the past 3 years because of injury and been knocked out of others.

True. But I have more confidence in Trestman's offense than in Turner's, Martz's and Tice's. Turner was predictable, Martz was stubborn, and Tice was just awful. Neither of these three offenses did anything to protect Jay. (Especially Martz's.)

Now reading blurbs from the NFL beat writers and so-called fantasy experts, most (if not all) seem to be jumping on the Trestman bandwagon. So apparently there is a genuine consensus that the Bears may make some noise offensively this season.

Tough to go out on that limb of a statement if you're anticipating losing Jay for a handful of games as well. So my guess is that Trestman is as advertised, and Jay finishes the season in one piece, and plays all 16 games.

And Russell will probably be no better than a #3 backup. If he even makes the team.
