Is this guy the best coach in the NHL? Think about it, faces and names change from year to year, Nashville is on a tight budged every year and he gets reclamation project or unproven talent. Once players get good, they're signed off to big contracts or traded for more youth. The guy constantly has hard working, disciplined (save for last night) teams that either make the playoffs or are fighting for them the last week of the season.

Does any other coach do more with as little talent consistently? If Tippett can keep doing what he's doing in Phoenix for a couple more years than Trotz may have a rival. Am I missing something here?

He also takes accountability on the chin and doesn't pass it on or blame anybody else

Those Ron Wilson burns take a while to heal, don't they filo :)

Trotz continues to make lemonade out of lemons, if only the Preds could have held on to win that playoff game against the Hawks (you know, the one that Hossa ran Hamhuis into the endboards).

Him and Babcock are the best coaches in the league. I don't think it's rocket science. They've both been with their respective teams for so long and with obvious good reason. :p

The Preds are the Oakland A's of 10 years ago. Low budget, relatively unknown players at the time, hard working and sound defensively. Yet when it comes to the first-round of the playoffs, syonara!

This ^. Great analogy Gagne (even though I hate the A's and all of their damn success :D:L)

Trotz is almost too good. Nashville was built with other team's castoffs (we'll take uhh... Brent Gilchrist!) and still wasn't bad enough to consistently get lotto picks. I've been watching the guy for years, and he's damn good. Takes responsibility, doesn't whine, he's a smart tactician, and he doesn't lose the locker room.

Damn good coach.

But hey, look at the bright side. Now that the Giants have actually won something, they can be entered into the same conversation as the Oakland A's. They'll never be the better franchise, but at least they can be talked about side-by-side...kind of. :D

Now, back to your regularly scheduled Barry Trotzing.

Yes, Lindy Ruff.

He's the longest tenured coach in the League right now, and he keeps the Sabres competitive with no "star" players other than perhaps Miller.

Every year the Sabres have a group of undersized, under-talented players that still do quite well, even though on paper it would seem they shouldn't.

Once the Sabres get a player that actually becomes really good, they get rid of them without getting anything in return.

Doesn't someone on their team make 7mil/per? That is star player salary...

If someone was dumb enough to pay me $1374.74 for an ounce of my shit, that doesn't mean they just bought gold.

It was actually $1375.75, and eBay posted it as a "buy it now." I couldn't pass that up. The whole cash for gold...wait...you are saying it's NOT gold?

I was thinking Montreal Expos.
Develop talented players, and can't compete when it's time to pay them

The same can be said of the A's - however they kept developing players and competing (until recently).

A lot of folks call the A's the Yankees farm team. Sad, but true.
