I was really worried about the Tide's trip to Knoxville this weekend until I did a little research. Now, given that Joshua Dobbs is a very talented quarterback who can move the ball with his arm as well as his legs, and he has put up 1433 yards & 14 touchdowns through the air, to go with 324 yards & 5 TD's on the ground - and one by reception - it should also be noted that he has also thrown 8 interceptions and been sacked 14 times. No other SEC QB has thrown more than 5 interceptions, and only Austin Allen of Arkansas has been sacked as many times (and half of those came against Alabama.
Bama's Jalen Hurts has only thrown for 1242 yards and 9 touchdowns, but he has also only thrown 2 interceptions and was only sacked 5 times. Hurts has also run for 296 yards and 5 TD's.
Jalen Hurd has 403 yards rushing, 2 TD's and a 4.03 yard per carry average for UT, while the Vol's Alvin Kamara has 292 yards, 2 TD's and a 5.21 yard per carry average. Alabama counters with Damien Harris, who has 478 yards, 1 TD, and a whopping 8.69 yards per carry, along with Bo Scarbrough's 164 yards, 4 touchdowns and 4.32 yards per carry.
The Vols aren't that great in getting pressure on the QB, as Derek Barnett and Corey Vereen have combined for only 7 sacks for 39 yards in losses. Alabama has three players that have demonized opposing quarterbacks, with Ryan Anderson notching 5 sacks for -38 yards, Jonathan Allen getting 4 for -36, and Tim Williams getting 4 for -33. There are five other Crimson Tide players with a combined 9 sacks for 53 yards in losses. That's a big sack differential. Throw in the fact that Alabama has scored 10 times this season on defense and special teams, and it looks like the Vols will be turning blue before this game is over with.
And, even though Alabama's Adam Griffith has had his lapses at times, he is still 8 out of 11 on FG's this year, connecting on two between 40 & 49 yards, with a long of 48. UT's Aaron Medley is 5 of 7, with a long of 39.
I'm sure it will be a tough, hard-hitting ballgame, but I feel confident that Bama will notch another win at Neyland Stadium on Saturday.
