Obviously the game was out of hand. What percentage of an excuse is that? <0.1%

Injured? He's running to first, not being tackled by 310-pound dudes in garbage time.

For the record, I do agree that players should try their best in the vast majority of cases. My point was simply that there are situations where there's no point in trying-- for example, when a blowout loss is a foregone conclusion. After, there is a slim (but non-zero) chance that a freak accident could occur while running to first base. (Basically, it's a case where the risk-reward trade-off might be "not worth it.")

Anyway... any thoughts on Game 2 for both teams?

With bases loaded, the dropped 3rd strike rule allows a force out at home plate.

They was very little reason to make a mad dash run to first base.
The catcher only needed to reach over about 10 inches and tag home plate.

There was no reward to the potential risk of hurting himself running to first.

They trailed by 9 runs, there was a guy on 3rd without a running start, all the catcher needed to do was tag home plate literally in front of him.

Sometimes there is a reason to play it safe and try again in game 2.

The scarier part if you're a Detroit fan is that Verlander hasn't been very good this year.

The O's are going to run away with this series imo.

Not scary for me. JV was lights out down the stretch. The scary part for me is and always was all season the pen.

Relatively quiet first inning for both teams.

Yep. Clean 1st for Verlander.

I think most of his ERA this year was built up in the 5th-6th-7th, so we'll see.

Idk. It looks like it hit that round part on top of door which I think is a homer.

That's tough.

It's funny, just recently have the Orioles fans came out of hiding. I support both Nats and O's but you won't see me Rock a Zimmerman jersey or a Markakis jersey. Kind of annoys me lol. But whatever, I want a hometown team to win.
