Penguins get a makeover, Devils trying to hang on to their current stars, Flyers back in hunting mode, the Rangers bounce back from a surprising playoff knockout and the Isles still confuse the hell out of me. Who looks to be positioned the best for the start of the season?

So many variables missing from the equation makes it hard to do the math. This question might be easier to answer around this time, next week.

I'll say this... If Lundqvist plays next season as he did last, there's no reason to think the Rags won't be contending again.

Seriously...need a week until this talk can get amped up. *puts pin in this thread* Just take a second and think how different those rosters could look in a weeks time.

The reason that I asked is based on today, before we see the free agents signed. I can't wait that long!

If the Penguins sign both Parise and Suter :-)pray:), I really like them to contend. The Flyers have shown they have enough talent on the roster to do it, and the Rangers have shown that Lundqvist is good enough to do it himself. The Devils, like the Penguins, hinge a lot on what happens with Parise.

The Atlantic Division will put 5 teams in the playoffs this year and go undefeated against every other division.

When all is said & done the Penguins will win the Atlantic if they stay healthy. I expect them to be very active in free agency & the trade market.

Verizon predicted it...

I could see the Penguins having a perfect season... if every game went to a shootout.

Well if they sign Parise he's pretty much automatic in the shootout... but that won't happen.

If he has to go anywhere, wouldn't you prefer that he doesn't become a Flyer?

Since he already said no to the Rangers, yes the Flyers would be next up on my list of teams that I don't want to see him on. Wow, the thought of him in those disgusting crossing guard uniforms just sent a chill down my spine. So thank you for that.

I'll trade you Jordan Staa... nevermind.

Gotta think the Parise Showdown is between NJ, DET, and PIT. With MIN as a longer shot for his services. I think the Pens *may* be focused more on Suter (which I think is why originally Shero wanted to trade for his rights...because then he'd know which direction to take), but they have the money to do both to a degree. If they really want both though: move Martin. And I think it may eventually come to that. Teams are bidding for PaulMart. Other hockey people are saying that the Pens are also in on Ryan and Schultz, though I don't think Schultz is the answer if it's the Schultz I think it is. I think Ryan may be the back up plan if Parise doesn't come though. Or if Suter becomes too pricey. What do people think those guys will ask for on the market? Not what they'll get from the bottom teams, but what they'll ask for from contenders?

between 7 and 7.5.. for both suter and parise.. thats my guess

parise - 7.5 to minnesota
suter - 7 to detroit

those are my guesses.

as for the division.. pens, flyers, rags, devils, islanders.. with the islanders and devils fighting for the playoffs.. top 3 go 1, 4, and 5 in the east, again.
