This is why I don't understand the shift at all from either side (at least the extreme shift we saw on Alvarez and on many lesser hitters); on the hitters side its asinine to not just take that free hit with either a bunt or slapping swing the other way. On the pitching side, if you're willing to just give that away, why waste your pitcher's arm? Just intentionally walk him.

Yep. Bad Marco made his appearance tonight. And I'm sure that's not the end of it.

Can't see this lineup scoring 4 in late innings so the streak comes to a crashing halt. It was going to end sooner or later, but Jrod with the scratch was just a huge letdown. Not sure if/how it impacted the team, but the energy just isn't the same as we expected tonight.

Exactly what I stated earlier in this thread before the game started.
Servais coddles Marco and does not want to hurt his feelings yanking him when he should, lets him give the game away and then makes a change.

He is lucky they did not get 6-7 home runs off him. They flew a few to the warning track and 1 pulled just foul I think.

Marco against HOU is just a bad match up. he never brushed a hitter back off the plate the entire fucking game.
Just let them keep leaning into every pitch he threw. Even rookie Kirby will bust them up and in and make them think twice about diving into the zone to barrel a ball up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset by a loss. It was not having the battle we expected with the late scratch. I wouldn't have had an issue with a loss if we had the full squad and came up short.
