That is something I don't understand. It's one thing if he was still chasing the record, but he had already broken it. I'm not one that cares when teams run up the score. It's not wrong IMO, but Keenum missed most of last season due to injury. If he had gotten injured in that situation, then it would have been idiotic for him to be in there.

Houston isnt in the position to be able to sit their starters and let Rice make the game look close. The Cougars need to win by as much as they can every week if they want to climb the rankings. This isnt some AQ team or even a team like Boise or TCU that can just win and have it be OK. If Houston wants to keep moving up they need to win HUGE every week. They are still playing for a BCS game you know. If Boise drops one then Houston will have a shot but not if they only win by 5 or 6.

Teams in big conferences have the luxury of doing that because if you're Bama and are ahead of Miss State 27-0 and pull you starters and win 27-14 then no one cares. If you're Boise, Houston, TCU etc and are ahead 35-3 and pull you starters and win 35-20 then its " look at Houston they only beat Marshall by 15". Its a tough spot.

Ive never liked the competition thing when it comes to stats. Keenum plays bad teams with bad players as his teammates. If his teammates were any good they wouldnt be at Houston right?? I get the argument when it comes to W/L records and rankings but who you play doesnt matter at all for stats because your teammates arent elite level either. If it was so easy then the Marshall/Southern Miss/UCF QB would have the same stats. Keenums stats are because he's damn good and because his team throws the ball all the time ( just like Harrell, Kingsbury, Klingler, Ware, Brennan, Chang, Detmer before him)

Keenum is good. No question about that. But he wouldn't be at Houston if this was known when he was in high school. He would have gone to Big 12 or SEC and would never have put up those numbers. But I do agree with you're basic argument.

Its not a coincidence. It makes perfect sense. How many times high school athletes come in and start their freshman year for a BCS team and are given the freedom to pass a lot. Danny Wuerffel, Philip Rivers, and Brady Quinn are also high on the list...its because they played for four years. Colt was just outstanding he had 5 TDs in 7 games and 6 in another in 2006. And he threw 7 in one game. But most of the other players with so many TD passes are up there because they played for four years. Had Peyton Manning played all of his freshman year he could be in the top ten, but he didnt because its hard for freshmen at major conference schools to come in and start as freshman, its not as hard for good quarterbacks to start at non-AQ schools.

If you take away the 2010 season for Keenum, he would be tied with Graham Harrell with less passes thrown. Also, Keenum only had TD passes in 1 game in 2010. It's not like the 3 game racked his TDs up. Only 1 game did.

Yet, why not talk about Colt Brennen - the guy in 3rd? He only played 3 seasons. It took Graham Harrell a full year more to break his record. Bradford did play very well, and if he did stay healthy, he could be in the conversation as well.
