Seems like a good move for the A's. Weeks was expendable since Sogard took 2B over. Sogard had a 94 OPS+ in 2013 (which isn't bad at all coming from a middle infielder) and played a pretty solid 2B. Change of scenery might do Weeks some good, though the O's do have Schoop in AAA.

I thought the A's were the masters of NEVER paying for a closer...they develop them, Otero, Doolittle among others can do what Johnson does.

I think the A's Beane is freakin trying to pull off all his moves before winter meetings...this could be a great strategy. He will have access to all the players available at least.

Beane sees this team as the team that could get him a Ring and looks like he is willing to move for it.

We could be watching something cool if it works out.

(or another movie, lol)

It's surprising, but I think Beane has something up his sleeve. Weeks didn't really have a place on the A's anyway. Don't they still have Scott Sizemore?

Weeks is worth a flier, but his 2013 leaves a lot to be desired (.271/.376/.369 in the PCL at the age of 26).

Not a great trade for the O's in my opinion, but there is no way they were gonna pay $11mil for a closer not named Mariano Rivera. This was pretty much a salary dump. Going out on a limb here, and this will obviously depend on whether or not the A's re-sign Balfour, but they could contemplate converting JJ to a starter. The O's thought about this, and that was the original plan for him. Just throwing it out there...
