it's a transition year where we'll probably have to take our lumps; will have 1st round pick in '14 and look to lure some key FA's west. Everything must have an ending including a successful Lakers millenia with 5 titles in 10 years. Let's see the Heat or any other team try to replicate that these next 10 years. My money says it won't happen seeing how today's FA's don't care to have long runs with a single team.

If LA does this, who's going to play defense?

What do you mean 'who's going to play defense'? No one!! You must know that Mike D'Antoni is still the Lakers HC, right?

For a fanbase that is so confident that Lebron is staying, Heat fans sure are spending an awful lot of time trying to convince everyone else that he's staying!!

Or are they really just trying to convince themselves!!:noidea:[

So your hope can be voiced but a counter opinion is trying to convince?

What you are HOPING is that James who has flourished in Miami so far and is the heavy favorite to win again next year will just decide he needs to switch teams? To help the Lakers rebuild?
Wasn't Howard supposed to do that?:laugh3:

He really wants to move to the WC where even getting to the Finals will be a crapshoot every year? Much, more difficult then it will be in the EC. No?

The MUCH more likely scenario is that he, and also possibly Wade opt out and resign discounted again so that they can continue to do exactly what they are doing.
James will do what Howard did and have an opt out after 3.

At that point, he can see where he stands and then make anther decision at that point.

I still stand by my original prediction that if he ever switches teams he will go to NY or Brooklyn.
To me, those are the only 2 destinations that even make sense.

There's the extreme narcissist that we all know and think is a complete moron!! How the hell do you know what I HOPE? I really don't care much one way or the other if Lebron becomes a Laker!! I know that one way or another and sooner rather than later, the Lakers will be just fine!!

I have even said that I think Lebron will end his career with the Heat!!

In 2014, Lebron and Carmelo will both be free agents. That is a fact!!

In 2014, unless both do like CP3 and announce that they are staying put, the Lakers will make a serious push for both of them.

If the Lakers get one or both, great!! If they don't, then they will look to 2015!! Either way, I'm not worried!!

What I find funny (and what you failed to address) is the fact that everytime someone mentions the possibility of Lebron leaving, Heat fans immediately start posting that he's not going anywhere!! You guys sure do sound desperate!!

And with your response, you did a fantastic job of proving my point!!

While we're on the subject, this teaming up stuff is more of a thing that I just accept rather than like. I loved the 90's where pretty much each team had a star(at MOST 2) and they wouldn't team up because they HATED each other so much. The AAU culture has taken over the NBA and either you get on the train or you get left behind

:agree:

True, but James greatly enhances ANY teams chances because he is the best player in the world.

If you switched James with the best player on other teams rosters last season, there are probably 5-7 teams that could have won the championship IMO.

Can't diasgree with that!!

So you are saying times have changed, but then asking us to compare what you feel the new times are compared to what the older times were?

Maybe the Heat won't win 5/10, but we are at 3 and hopefully counting since '06.

Do you think the Lakers ever win 5/10 again?

To go after whom

Just admit it already.
The Lakers only chance to contend in the next handful of years or so is James.
He's not coming though.

You guys (who think he is leaving Miami) are way underestimating his bond/ trust with Riley/Arison IMO.

I recall most of you bandwagon Heat fans that were Cavs fans saying the same thing that LeBron wasnt leaving the Cavs. Cavs fans thought he wasnt leaving to just get bent over and look like morons.

Melo would have to opt out and leave 23mil+ on the table to become a UFA.

Isn't that what LA fans did when others talked about the possibility of Dwight leaving?

Not really? I think some thought he wouldn't want to walk away from $30 million, but he did. By the end of the season, there were many Laker fans who were afraid that he wouldn't walk away from it!!

My stance all along was that the Lakers would offer him the max deal and if he walked away, fine!! By the end of the season, I was one of the ones that hoped he would walk away from it, but was afraid that he wouldn't!!

In the end, he really didn't walk away from $30 million. With taxes figured in, he walked away from about $9.5 million!!

In our lifetime?

Well, if we count like you do, since 06' (rather convenient by the way) we are sitting on two already, so I like our Lakers' chances of getting to 10 (History is on my side). I'm not sure if the Heat will ever make it to 10 (Again in our lifetime).

Why?

All we heard from LA fans is that "Dwight's hurt, not 100%, wait till next season when he's fully recovered"

I think the more it became the possibility that Dwight may leave is when a lot of Lakers fans said "we don't want him" to cover their asses from saying "he won't leave LA, he wants to win rings" for 6mos.

Anytime it was brought up that he may leave, those posters were laughed at by LA fans because of the cash and it's the Lakers.

The thread that Hurricane made in April about him going to Houston is littered with posts laughing at the notion he would leave LA

Why?!? Have you been under a rock all season? The whole "Dwightmare" thing continued when he came to the Lakers!! Laker fans were hopeful that he would figure things out and become more like the Dwight we saw a couple of years ago.

Problem was, that even though his body healed, his head didn't!! The guy showed that he wasn't a player who could lead team to a title. When he had the opportunity to step up and show that, he chose to get himself ejected!! That was the last straw for most Laker fans!!

You can say what you want about Laker fans "covering their asses" and that may be where some are coming from. But, by the end, most Laker fans were "lukewarm" at best re: him coming back!!

You made a statement saying you felt it would be difficult to win 5 titles in a decade.
I sort of agree. It is hard to win 5 in 10 titles in any sport.
How many modern day times has it even happened?

So, I mentioned that the Heat has 3 currently going within a 10 year period.

Based on the conversation, how is my starting time convenient?
When would you suggest I start from?

But all we heard for most of the season was "he's hurt...he's hurt...he has a torn labrum in his shoulder and came back too early from his back surgery"

Now you expect me to believe that since he didn't step up in the playoffs, "while he was playing with a torn labrum and bad back" that was the last straw?

Can't have it both ways, man.

Lakers fans only became lukewarm once they felt the chances of him leaving was equal or greater then the chances were that he was staying.
