Okay, as "good" as Mad Max has been, I feel it's time to have a chat about him. In his last six starts, he has given up 7, 5, 4, 4, and 10 earned runs... and oh yeah, one CGSO. So what's up? The strikeouts are there, but he's giving up some hits, and I'm starting to get scared. He's been bailed out by his offense a few times, otherwise, more people might be talking about him in a bad way.

I'm already regretting taking him over Felix, but do I need to really take a look here and try to get something while his stock is still pretty high? Is he a rich-man's Verlander right now? Is it going to get worse, before it gets better? Are we blinded by his 8-3 record, or is that part of his package...a good offense?)

I personally have been a big fan of his ever since he hit the league. Didn't ever think he'd be a Cy Young caliber pitcher, but a dependable piece of any rotation, including fantasy. It's my opinion that what we're seeing now is simply a little regression to what should be his norm. I think he over achieved last year just a little bit, and he's now pitching to who he really is, a power pitcher who on any given night can dominate, but if something is just a bit off that night, can also get hammered.

I would be of the mind to seriously shop him, if you can find anyone who believes in last year, you'll be set. But even if not, his K's and W's should still return a decent amount.

I dunno about Scherzer, but as a fan of good (bad?) puns, I love the thread title. :thumb:

Treff has a good handle on it, I'd think.
As a Tigers fan (and maybe a little bit of a homer), I'd probably still pay full value for him.
So... I think there's no reason to sell short at all. Shopping him is harmless, but I'd keep your expectations high as far as a return goes.

his FIP and xFIP are about half a run lower than his ERA (3.26/3.37). Those marks are more in line with 2012 (3.27/.323) than 2013 (2.74/3.16).
