That Alex Smith is a really fucking good NFL QB?

Since joining KC he's 43-20 as a starter, 64% completion , 81 TDs to 28 INTs, 7.4 YPA, 24-4 in his last 28 starts .

Is it time? Finally. Come on you can do it. Say it with me

"Alex Smith is a top 10 QB"

I promise it won't hurt

He definitely looks good when he is comfortable. Which has never been my issue with him. It's when it gets ugly I dog on him. Yesterday was a lot more impressive all things considered for me. I already knew he could have a game like he did against the Pats where he is hyper efficient (albeit that was a little outlandish).

9 YPA when all kinds of pressure in his face.

He's looked really good for 6+ years lol
Eh....

He is playing the best football of his career right now. His YPA in his previous 6 years: 7.1, 8.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.4, 7.2. His jump this year is kind of like Matt Ryan's jump last year.

Smith's 7.4 YPA during his career in KC would rank in the Top 10 in the league most every year . Yes it's crazy high this year but 7.4 overall is still a top 10 QB

Alex Smith's actual YPAs every year:

2016: #16
2015: #14
2014: #24
2013: #29

Much like Matt Ryan and once upon Andy Dalton

Definitely never truly sucked

But legitimate questions remain about postseason play

No. He's had 20 or more TD pass seasons only twice in his career.

He has, however, become . . . wait for it . . . . a good game manager.

Yes, but YPA has been going up (basically when Smith had an NFL offense around him starting 2015 or so to catch up) so Smith being around there while not surprising, is pretty much commensurate with his average-slightly-above-averageness. Would be very happy if he hit more throws downfield via Hill, Conley, Kelce, and the OL being able to passblock, but I am not expecting a huge number.

Can't say I really care if it's the RB scoring the TD or the QB throwing it.

Alex has really evolved, it's taken time, but he's worked hard and has ended up being a pretty dam solid QB... Years ago he was just so predictable and going through progressions was just something he couldn't do, that's not the case today though....

Probably the most surprising thing from yesterday was the Eagles completely took away the 10-20 yard pass from Smith and he still managed to be statistically efficient. Still not sure if the missed TD to Hill is on Hill not adjusting to the ball, Smith, or both.

He has underwhelmed, IMO, for what he's had at his disposal. He's always had a solid RB behind him, if not elite - The Jamaal Charles healthy days, for example. He's had decent WRs, not elite but not poor. He's always had a fantastic defense to support him though, which is more than most QBs who've played as long as him can say. In his best season as a pro, he averaged 1.5 TD per game. That's extremely mediocre for someone who is starting an entire season. That would've tied him at 15th last year.

As was said, he's a great game manager, and an above average athlete. He's an overall solid QB for sure. Top 10 in the league? No.

Agreed, he's not elite, but he's evolved from what he was early in his career... He's going through progressions WAY better than he used to ... I would put him above a game manager at this point in his career ...

Man, I don't know what people are seeing in the 2013 and 2014 WR's for the Chiefs. Those were... something. They're only now getting the OL they've spent the better part of 5 years now building. There's a reason Smith's YPA jumped from bottom tier to average almost instantly once there was a WR who could stretch the field.

No I won't say it....yet!

Smith has always been a solid QB. One change I've seen early in this season and a little last year, A Smith is more willing to challenge the DEF downfield more now.

Top 10? Truthfully if we counted them off, he probably his, but I think he much like Matt Ryan did...he needs some post season success.

If it continues to go south in JAX...do you start over in the draft? Don't you have to call KC?

He is OK. No, he's not top 10. Certainly not the type of guy you want to carry your franchise
