Bad year, no consecutive wins in two months, losing to sub par teams, light schedule in January and the old men are playing nearly 35 min per game and still losing.

if Riley has a bad free agency this year , if he does, he is going to go into a major rebuild mode

See Heat seasons 2008-10.
Ask no more, because that is the answer.

The problem is that Riley turns 70 years old (in 2 months)

I don't think he has the patience to wait out a rebuild strategy into his mid 70s.

At 62, 63 maybe......

No the heat doesn't do major rebuilding projects. They're not the Celtics who doesn't have any intentions of being good for the next 10 years

And just for the record the heat plan was never to strike gold in free agency this summer.

No.

It's to strike gold in 2016.

Exactly. They'll make minor moves in the summer to improve such as getting rid of Cole and finally getting a true PG and probably improve some role players but that's about it

I guess it depends on your definition of " crossroads ", Logic.

They lost the best player in the game.

There is no recovering from that.

But, under the circumstances, they did about the best salvage job imaginable and that is all due to Riley.

I don't buy they age thing.

As long as he is healthy, he can still get it done.

I think it comes down to preference and timeline.

The Celtics and 76ers decided to get real bad, for several Seasons, in order to have a chance for longterm success.

The Lakers and Knicks decided to go straight into the dumpster, for a few Seasons. to put them in a position to rebuild fast.

The Hawks and Heat have decided to tread water, while staying relevant, but not really being in the title chase. * Atlanta might be changing that this Season *.

As a fan, the Heat and Hawks path is the most enjoyable. But, the Lakers/ Knicks might be the faster path back to title contention if management makes the right moves.

I am not a Heat or Knicks fan.

But, I believe in the guys that are running those franchises until they give me a reason not to:noidea:.

I don't think the Heat need a true PG, I think they could be just fine with Wade scoring like he is and facilitating. I'd be more concerned with getting a legit center so that Bosh can play PF and not have to bang with the big boys.

Several will be available.

They don't have the money to grab a Hibbert/Jefferson type.

But, Asik might be in the budget.

There management is stellar, but the conditions now are quite different than pre the big three:

Their best player is 33 not 28 or 29
This is post CBA, the deal they made for the big three was pre.
They don't have the picks they did back then (which they used to get the Big three deal to happen)
They are asking older players to,play high minutes
They are not much better than the celtics nearly half way through

Rarely do top free agents get to free agency. Numerous teams have young rosters , money and draft picks.

My point is, if they don't do well in the next free agency, they may need to act fast. They are a 500 team and the stars are getting only older.

I think this offseason will decide the direction for sure

THis offseason won't decide anything. Since Lebron left the Heat been looking forward to the 2016 offseason, not the 2015 offseason.

Bosh is no longer the C. We need a true PG much more than we need a true C. There's not even many true centers in the East anyway.

The PG play is comical.

If Lebron told Miami he was leaving ahead of time, Miami would still be a contender out East.

LBJ screwed us over big time by having us in the waiting game. Once he decided he was going to Cleveland, all of the top free agents were either signed or already have cut their list down to 1 or 2 teams so it was too late in the game for Miami to get involved

Thanks to LeBron, Riley had to go to plan B and make the most of the time he lost waiting for LBJ to finish stalling. The Heat won't go into a full rebuild, they may change some stuff around around Bosh and D-Wade but they aren't going to be bottom-feeding like the Celtics. Not everyone is as used to bottom-feeding as Boston is, you guys did it for years under Pierce.

Yeah, PG is where Lebron leaving really hurt the Heat. Because of his skill set, he was pretty much the de facto point guard. Now that he's no longer there, the Heat PG's are getting exposed.

Hmmm...Interesting points.

But, unless they trade Bosh, there is no way for them to make any noise in this Summer's free agency.

They are in a better position, financially, for 2016.

We all know the big fish is Durant.

Only one Team can get him and I think it will be OKC or Washington.

But, That doesn't mean they won't try.

Im sure they wont be to broken up if they ended up with Noah, Horford or Mike Conley.

I was hoping that Napier would be the long-term solution at that position.

Maybe with time?

BKS in reflection I agree Lebron screwed u guys. You got nothing for him and he could have made his intentions faster.

Outlaw, grab a mirror, your bottom feeding now. Unless Lebron decides to shift again out west you will have time to enjoy that ride.
