Tonight, the defense finally broke. The offense had a chance to take the lead with a TD and ended up with nothing... Play calling by Linehan is clueless...The defense played well up to a certain point.. And by the way, what happened to our super aggressive defense of Monday night?.. It looked like our defense was prepared for the pass (nickel)and Green Bay was running it down our throats. This year was a bust because of injuries...We need to look at Moore.....I think the year would have been far different with a healthy Romo and Dez..

Losses without Romo

Atlanta .....39-28
Saints.......26-20 in OT
Giants.....27-20
Seahawks.....13-12
Eagles.......33-27 in OT
Buccaneers..10-6

Things are never as bad as they seem......Things are never as good as they are......Aikman

With a healthy team next season.....a new GM......and a new coaching staff......a great draft..............
.the COWBOYS will be just fine.

With Romo, we'd be 9-4, 10-3

On offense we found out that we did not have a capable backup QB. We also found out that we need another receiver as TWILL is limited. On defense we see a secondary incapable of making any plays on the ball. Carr and clay burn are trash. Wilcox and church suck as well. It is time to give cassell a clipboard and put Moore and showers in. I said going into the year that our 1 tech was not adequate. A top 5 pick is going to help out

The real issues that we have are that outside of Witten and the o-line, this team including its alleged stars and top players have grossly underperformed. Bryant has stats of the 2nd or 3rd option at receiver and likely has close to have as many drops as catches this year. Our two alleged linebackers (Lee and Mcclain) have been inconsistent if not average or below average all year. Our 2nd round draft pick was non-existant after the Giants game. Hardy did not play to his contract. Our DC and OCs were outclassed. Five and 1/2 years in and our head coach still can not properly manage NFL games and has done nothing to improve either side of the ball. Finally, the interior part of the D-line is not very stout versus the run. We can say we could have won plenty of games with Romo, but I am not sure about that with this team.

Anybody else thinking Garrett making up the part that cassell gives cowboys best chance to win? He is bad. It seems like a good way to tank.

Forgot we had him still. We have nothing to lose, why not throw some wildcats in the mix every once in a while? they might not get a yard, but feels like more than half our plays with a traditional set don't either. How about putting a wildcat on a 3rd and 1, with intent to draw an offsides? I bet it would work at least once.

Extremely hard to believe the Cowboys have been so terrible on 3rd and 1 this season

I've laughed at this thread for 4 days. Earl Stevens has given the reason (along with the Romo injury) as to why this team is 4-9

THE ALL TIME RECORD for fewest forced turnovers for a team playing a 16 game schedule is 12
Through 13 games this cowboy defense has 8

No team in football preaches turnovers more than our defensive coaches. YET, we have 8 all year.

The curse of jerry jones is alive and well

I would just like to have a CB that is actually feared. I'm not saying Mo and Carr are bad because they aren't. I don't know if it is the scheme or what , but the rest of the East CBs make plays.

Mo hasn't been top 10 talent and he's been adequate this year IMO.
Carr hasn't been good. I'm not sure he's been good his entire time in Dallas.
Wilcox & Church remain average on their good days, which are few. #38 is a game plan changer every time he's on the field. #31 looks to be a player BUT I'd still draft two db's next year. (been saying this for at least 3/4 years now)

Scheme is most definitely our issue. we have the talent at the positions, but we don't have a ball hawk playing safety that is allowed to roam free. We need another Darren Woodson.

We've needed a Woodson since he left. They don't seem to come along too often.

Oh I know :)

But that one guy roaming center field, and put in a position to make plays, can make an entire defense look so much better. pressure up front will do the same, but it's 50/50 IMO. There is no such thing as a CB that can shut down a guy by himself. they all have help over the top at some point, and pressure up front makes the QB look once and move to the next read. If the QB can watch for the moment a CB gets his hips turned the wrong way...ball game.

I believe so. You can cover up some gaps with correct schemes. I watch games and couldn't tell you where our safeties are most of the time. Seems like they are the ones making tackles on runs.

That was the big hope for this year, that we would have a big pass rush. It just never materialized.
Hardy was not what we hoped, Crawford was hot and cold, d law coming on at different times but nothing consistent.

Things aren't this bad, but I'll say some things that very few Cowboy fans would say about this team:

Witten is washed up. He's still a good blocker and route runner but he is absolutely no threat down the field and no threat when the ball is in his hands. It's time to find a big play TE to groom and not trash like Escobar either. Witten might be the best TE ever but age is undefeated and he has so much wear and tear on his body.

The Cowboys have been better at drafting than in previous years but it still hasn't been good enough to compete for a championship. The best franchises are the franchises that consistently find value all throughout the draft, not just the first two or three rounds. The Cowboys are barely hitting on anything after Round 3 and that has been an issue ever since Parcells left almost a decade ago. The 2009 draft alone fucked up any chance at us winning a SB during Romo's prime. 12 draft picks and all of them were busts. Could have gotten LeSean McCoy in 2nd round or traded up for Unger but instead let Unger get snatched by Seattle and then traded back to the 3rd round and picked trash while passing on Mike Wallace, Paul Kruger, Sebastian Vollmer, and DeAndre Levy. We took Stephen McGee over Henry Melton. See we could have had Melton's best season instead of signing him in free agency after he was damaged goods.

Yes I know hindsight is 20/20, but the 2009 draft was so bad. We could have had so many good players and we ended up with no good players at all. We are still feeling the effects of that draft to this day. Depth has been an ongoing issue for years as a result. We don't even need to think SB until this franchise starts finding gems consistently late in the draft(or UDFAs) because teams win SBs, not teams dependent on one or two players. 1-9 without Romo says a lot. This is an organizational issue.

Rod Marinelli is a motivator, not a defensive coordinator. It doesn't matter how hard he gets these guys to play if he can't coach them up to be discipline, play the scheme correctly, and play at a high level in key situations. How is DeSean Jackson allowed to get 1 on 1 coverage to tie the game in Washington? A big play speedy WR like him gets one on one coverage with no help over the top against a rookie? How do we continuously get burned on 3rd and long? How were there no proper adjustments made when Julio Jones was torching us? We lost two OT games without the offense even seeing the ball because the defense gave up a big play TD. Yes, the players aren't that great in the secondary, but Marinelli isn't making the proper adjustments either. The defense certainly has had its moments this year because they have kept us in many games, but they aren't making big plays, and they are routinely coming up short in situational football moments and don't get me started on the turnovers. We are on pace to set the NFL record for least amount of turnovers forced. Marinelli is a great motivator that should be regulated to defensive line coach only, but I know there's no way in hell he's taking a demotion. But as long as he is this team's DC, I will continue to support him even if I don't like it.

I think I've seen enough of Jason Garrett to know what he's good at and what he's not good at. He's good at motivating his players and brings accountability, but the in-game decision making and inability to develop a capable back up behind Romo has become too problematic. Garrett was calling all the shots on offense for years and all those years he couldn't draft a young back up that could step in and run the offense with some efficiency and win us a few ball games in case we lost Romo. The only reason why I wouldn't want Garrett gone is because what good coach would even want to come to Valley Ranch to be the head coach?
