Are the Cowboys making a mistake with 'gamemanship'?

I've heard all week from the various talking heads that Dallas is engaging in gamesmanship with the Eagles by not declaring who the starter is.

Tony Romo hasn't taken a whole lot of snaps with the 1st string offense due to his injury.

Kyle Orton hasn't taken any at all with the 1st string offense - only with the scout team.

I know I'm only a woman but isn't the risk that you're going to end up starting a QB on Sunday night - whomever it may be - that hasn't taken a lot of snaps with the 1st string offense?

Couldn't you end up with an offense that looks disjointed and no one is on the same page of the playbook?

Might they not end up getting caught betwixt and between on this?

Teams do it all the time with who "is" or "isn't" playing though. Patriots put all there players on the questionable list before a game (i know its not the entire team but you get my point).

This was my point.

ESPN said that Orton hasn't taken any at all that Romo's been limited due to his back. So the first team offense is getting limited work - at best - out of 'gamesmanship'?

It seems to me they'd have been farther off ahead to just name Orton the starter on Monday and give him all the reps, and build the game plan accordingly.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that gamesmanship isn't keeping them from practicing.


I think the reality of the situation is that they're desperate for Romo to start, and they really are unsure about him starting on Sunday night. With that said, Orton's getting those 1st team snaps.

I actually think the Cowboys have a better chance to win if Orton plays. Romo is the biggest choker in the NFL. The Cowboys have the worst record in the league since he's been their starter in the final game of the season. If Garrett wants a better chance to win he'll start Orton.
