Archieverse: Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Katy Keene

The Archieverse has been around for three years, launching with Riverdale. It has already gotten one spinoff, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Now another spinoff, Katy Keene, is getting launched. Since we don't yet have a thread for any of these series, might as well start one now.

For Riverdale it depends on how you feel about teen drama shows. If you were ever aware or liked One Tree Hill it’s kinda like that only a little darker in tone at times.

Riverdale is basically teens solve murder mysteries, plus lots and lots of relationship drama. I quite enjoyed season 1 (the Jason arc) and the first half of season 2 (the Black Hood arc). I would recommend the show up to halfway through season 2.

But after that, the show took a nosedive in the last half of season 2, becoming a tangled mess of unfocused plotlines, like the writers had no idea what to do with the show anymore or where they were going with the show and just threw a bunch of ill-fitting ideas at the wall hoping something would stick.

I think the show was hurt by its expansion from short season order (season 1 had only 13 episodes) to full season orders (22 episodes for seasons 2+).

Can't say anything about Sabrina as I haven't started it.

I haven't watched Riverdale or any of its spin-offs because I wasn't interested on a dark take on the Archieverse.

I'm surprised about the Katy Keene development. Although KK's adventures were published by MLJ/Archie, I don't believe she ever crossed over into any of the company's other publications. It was my belief that her creator, Bill Woggon, exercised some control over the publication of her books. I don't know if he's still around, but I'm not sure he would approve of the new tv series.

The spinoff shows don't seem to have the longevity of Riverdale:
