If I had to be stuck with something I wish it was something other than this

Good thing we traded fuller and a 3rd rounder for avg
You mean a 3rd round pick we could have used on, oh I don’t know, maybe an offensive guard? Could we use that right now?

A week ago when Russell was incorrectly reading the results of SMs trial against the Redskins and then going on a 10 minute rant about how pissed and how bad BA was he was also showing Smith a lot of love and telling us fans how we didn't understand what he brings and how much he is helping the team. :pound::pound::trash:

So Smiths contract prohibits any consideration of making a move? WTF is that? How can that be in a contract. What am I missing here dad.

I'll cop-sign this ^^^^^^^^^^ WTF does 'prohibits any consideration of making a move.' mean? We can't bench Smith? We can't trade Smith?

What move is prohibited from even considering?

They must be referring to some sort of no trade clause. IF so, no issues. There is no one in their right mind that would trade for Alex at this moment. May BA can trade him to himself?

I think they are simply referring to the structure of his contract and how the cost prohibits any real move away from AS.

I know I was one of the first, of not THE first and only to say go get Alex. I stand by that. I wanted to have a season. I didn't want to go through what the Jets, Browns, and Cardinals are experiencing with rookie QB growing pains.

My first option was always Kirk, but once it became apparent he didn't want to be here ANYMORE (at one point he did), 8 was all aboard for Alex.

Losing Fuller sucked. I was thinking a 3rd and Sua. What's done is done.

I didn't and still don't like Keenum who probably leads the league in INT or close to it. The Broncos suck. Bradford is out the league. MaCarron and Tyrod have both been benched.

Never been a Bridgewater fan.

No that leads me to Colt. My son called my from college and said he's ready to bench Alex. He said Kirk would fumble and throw picks but he moved the team. I agreed

I asked him if he was ready for Colt and he paused............then said no. "Colt is gonna throw a bunch of picks." Smith has not been good this year, but he's not killing us either. The Saints and Falcons punted one time the entire game

I will admit, I have rolled around in my head the idea of Colt. I do think the passing numbers would be better, but I dont think the win/loss record would be.

We have to ride AP and the defense until Alex and the Wrs get in sink or just continue to not lose us games. The extension is what stinks right now, not so much Alex's play. JMO

We jumped the gun on Smith. BA decided he didn't want to bid for Cousin's who said he wanted to see what his market value was.

Now I thought since they FO punted on Cousin's Smith was a solid decision. I forgot who Smith was. The FO also over paid for Smith and for way too long. Like it or not he is here for at least two more years after this year.

AP and the defense has been the reason they have won 5 games. Smith's job was just not to F it up. Lets hope he is going to get better but with the injuries to the Oline not sure Petersen is going to get the holes he was seeing before. If I was our opponent now I would really be loading the box.

See I knew Kirk wasn't coming back. Him continuing to sign franchise tag after franchise tag was one thing. Him being in Minnesota during Superbowl week was another. Him having that pep rally with the fans that was basically a farewell ceremony didn't sit well with me.

We fucked up the Kirk thing years ago, but Kirk wasn't entirely genuine towards the end. He knew he was leaving, but he's such a good guy he didn't want to be hated by the fans.

He stopped returning Bruce's calls and the minute he had a chance to sign a LTD somewhere else he did. Now granted, MIN came correct, but the idea that Kirk was coming back, but Bruce just didn't give him a chance doesn't fly with me.

OK...I will play. First off, had we not gone and got AS, we would have Fuller and a rookie third rounder to improve this team.

From there, I would suggest Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brock Osweiller, Tyrod Taylor, and AJ McCarron would have at least a 5-3 record, with more of our own rookie contact players, and at a lower cost than AS. We have given AS a top ten run game and defense...of course we have a winning record.

Smith was traded to the Redskins before Cousin's signed a contract with Minnesota.

You can paint it anyway you want to, the Redskins removed him from the equation.

He signed elsewhere because we had already signed Alex Smith. He told BA to talk to his agent...businessman to businessman...and BA didn’t know “Kurt’s” name.

You can claim KC wasn’t coming back, but there is zero proof to support that statement.

I'm not trying to paint anything. I was a Kirk guy. Search engine me and you will see I stumped for them to pay Krik, Garçon and Jackson. I just don't buy that Kirk was going to stay, especially after Bruce basically called him greedy and called him Kurt over and over again during that ridiculous press conference.

Alex is simply playing one of his 'average' years ... the Skins are getting exactly what they bought .... last year was an anomaly because he had SO many weapons around him on the Chiefs offense ... Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Albert Wilson, Kareem Hunt .....

he'll give you his standard 3500 yds, 20 TD's, 6 INT's and won't necessarily win you any games on his own but he rarely loses games on his own either ....

I was just telling you that the timeline meant the Redskins divorced Cousin's. Was he coming back, he couldn't have because the couldn't pay him and Smith and they had already traded for and signed Smith. Doesn't matter who you believe or don't believe, the FO made up his mind for sure.

As a fan I am sorry his gone while at the same time I am happy for him not to be involved in this train wreck anymore.

@Breed , @reptec101 , I think the gkekoa has this one right.

B/c of how his contract is structured, cutting or trading Alex Smith will be tough b/c the remaining prorated portions of his signing bonus would hit the cap. The deal is essentially a fully guaranteed 3 year deal at 23.6M/year with 2 team option years.

27M signing bonus spread over 5 years, so 5.4/year.
2018 13 salary, 5.4 bonus, 18.4 cap number
2019 15 salary, 5.4 bonus, 20.4 cap number
2020 16 salary, 5.4 bonus, 21.4 cap number (salary becomes guaranteed at start of 2019 league year)
2021 19 salary, 5.4 bonus, 24.4 cap number
2022 21 salary, 5.4 bonus, 26.4 cap number

So, he can’t really be cut until after the 2020 season. OTOH, he could be traded after the 2019 season and the team will break even on the cap (getting hit for his 16.2M prorated bonus, but saving his 2020 salary of 16).

Trading him after the 2019 season would mean getting little in return b/c Smith will be 36 for the 2020 season, the QB demand will be lower than last year and Smith will likely be coming off an average season.

The team can always draft or bring in another QB to start for the Skins at any point, but they’ll have to pay Smith 23.6M/year to sit on the bench (hurting his trade value even more) until after the 2020 season.

It wasn't enough that Reid straight schooled BA/our FO with the trade itself. Smith and his agent also schooled the fuck outta Allen/our FO far as the contract details.

I've stayed out of the Cousins conversations for the most part, but can anyone explain to me how Cousins at one time or another wasn't worth 20-21 mill, 18 mill, 16 mill etc, but Alex Smith is worth 23.6 million per/70 mill+ over 3 years.

I hope you're wrong about this, Niner, I really do. if you're not though. This would be the most asinine move the Skins FO has ever done. Worse than the Griffin fiasco, the Haynesworth debacle, the Archuleta shit-show. Worse than hiring Spurrier or Zorn's clueless asses.

Hey, thanks for the insight but I'm not the brightest guy when it comes to contracts. So what you're basically telling us is that we're stuck with mediocrity and minus a pick because our FO couldn't evaluate a QB that they farmed raised in their own backyard who they then kept tagging instead of seeing the potential within him and signing him for a bargain at soon to be yesterdays priced... ok I think I got it,, thanks.

Meant for niner outlaw.

Actually what it says is the FO couldn't correctly evaluate any of the last three QBs in Washington.
