I watched most of it - Hard to believe how hands-off the NHL was at the time as Spano kept on deceiving people left, right, and center. It was a pretty interesting show.

it looks interesting. Ive dealt with a few investors in previous companies that came in with alot of bravado and promises of money to take control as CEO or president, try to milk it dry and get caught with no money at all. he seems like a couple I remember very well.

Not to spoil it for you Matty, but when a guy is supposed to wire $17 million and he wires $1700 and then claims "oh they made a mistake in the wire transmission", at that point, you gotta know the guy is full of crap. He must have been quite the charmer.

We had this one CEO who promised $50M into the company the BOD all "apparently" did their due diligence on him, he came in and fired a bunch of people, claimed every expense he could including $0.45 for a donut, limo rides for a 3 block journey plane rentals around vancouver etc. When it came time to transfer the money it was excuse after excuse and problem after problem. When they went to confront him at his residence in France they found this nice old couple that were quite surprised at the visit. It wasnt his place. It was incredible that we ever survived that and went on for another 8 years.

Very dark days as a fan. Things didn't get better when Milstein & Gluckstern took over either. We're talking 18M payroll here. How nobody had any clue Spano was full of crap is beyond me. It was an utter failure by Pickett & the League. Made for good copy & TV though.

I have no idea. The one thing I do know is they were the only sports franchise at the time that flew commercial.

Actually, it was interesting to hear that the one "good" thing that Spano did when he owned the Isles was the negotiation of the Cablevision contract. That tv contract was likely the one item that kept the Isles on Long Island.
