Anyone know why Cal-UNLV was allowed to happen?

NCAA tournament rules usually prohibit rematches from the regular season. Actually I can never ever remeber one but Cal-UNLV already played this year. Anyone know why the committee allowed it this time. Not they couldnt have just switched out a 12 seed for Cal and matched them up with someone else.

It's even worse: Cal was ranked as an 11, but they moved them down to "accommodate the rules."

Honestly, it is quite baffling.

Someone speaking on behalf of the committee said it was because of seedings and locations and other logistical issues. He said it was the only way it would work. I don't know the reason why that was the only way it worked or why it was allowed to happen, and i certainly don't know why they're going to be rematching in san jose (an hour from Berkley).

That makes no sense especially when they are giving Cal a home game for all intensive purposes.... Could have just swapped out another 5 seed for UNLV and called it a day

A lot of these matchups look really strange. Oregon and Ol Miss are too low considering that they won their tournament. Also a lot of teams with similar styles playing each other in the first round.

Just guessing, but I think 1 move would have necessitated another move and then another move to keep withing other rules. Sometimes you just get stuck with all the rules they have on who can play who.

I bet there was another team seeded in Cals same seed that didn't play UNLV and the other seed didn't play Cal...if you're playing the East Region in California the first two rounds you can accommodate anything
