Avril has a chance to be better than Avril, but the NFL will use his speed against him in the run game just like it did with Avril as a Lion.

Amen brother!

Post of the week right there.

TP, I'd say that is a pretty accurate prediction......Care to make one on the Lions season record?

Not yet. Too many question marks left still. Somewhere between 7 and 11 games, I suppose. I'll say 9-7 for now, but we'll see how things are looking coming out of camp.

If we stay relatively injury free and the rookies step in and play well then we're playoff bound. If we get dinged up and our draft class is slow to develop then we're looking at 8-8ish, imo...

Avril is trash. Never saw a franchised DE getting single blocked by a tight end so often.

Start at 19-0 and work your way down from there. It's what I'm doing.

I think Ansah starts off fast because our DT's are so good, but by mid season, they will adjust for that and Jason Jones will have his best season ever as teams have to account for 3 monsters on the line. 6 sacks in the first 8 weeks, 3 sacks in the second.

I'm going to say 4 or 5. If he is able to pick up some pass rushing moves and technique to be the top tackles, it could be in double digits.

I just think his first year is going to be a learning experience for him and as he picks up more experience and moves, his numbers could be off the charts. His rookie year though, I think NFL tackles are going to give him fits.

The sky is the limit for him if he continues to progress though.

Would've said 5 sacks without Suh or Fairley. But the movie Replacements with Gene Hackman keeps coming to mind on "get me the ball". Without even seeing the secondary play I think their 35-40% better and the LB's can cover the underneath routes and fill the gaps better than whats its been on trying to help out with the sift. My thoughts tell me its a recipe to shut down the big plays. I'm going with 13 sacks from Ziggy.

Man -- I think there is going to be alot of disappointed Lions fans. I think in a few years Ansah could be a guy putting up double digit sacks, but I think the stars would have to align for him to get that in his rookie season.

I've been wrong before, but I just don't see how he will get that many in his rookie season.

Okay Grail, since you put it that way...

Ansah's speed and length are going to help him tremendously when the QB is flushed from the pressure up the middle. I'll say 15 sacks.

Have I heard you right, Mike? Our LB's will be the weakness because of their lack of run defense? I'm mixed up here... I thought good pass protection gives more sacks.

I can definitely see you are mixed up -- you quote me on something about Ansah and then comment about the LBs. Maybe you should drink and post. LOL

I am not sure that teams can double him. They are already doubling Suh. How many blockers are they going to commit? That would leave Fairly singled. Teams will have to choose who will sack their QB by doubling one or the other. It makes no difference to me if it is Ansah or Fairly getting the sack or if they split them. They cant commit 7 guys to blocking and still have a passing game. That would leave 7 defenders on 3 receivers.

Teams are still going to have to worry about Suh and Fairley inside. If Ansah is good enough to command a RB chip, a double team, a TE staying at home then he could end up with say 4-5 sacks and be wildly successful by looking at Suh's and Fairley's numbers.

The more attention Ansah takes from Suh and Fairley the better the defense is going to be.

Has any player ever doubled his sack total from his senior year of college in his rookie year in the NFL? That's what these predictions of 8 & 9 sacks would require.
