If Romo is cut traded or hurt in a retirement situation ..... you can turn your tv off for the next 3 years

I believe that if a player retires right after inking a new contract the team can fight to get money back. No clue on what happens with a career ending injury. I'd think the league would have to grant a partial waiver or domething.

If you know Romo, they won't have to.

Honestly I dont know .......
No player has ever signed a contract that big and had to retire the next year .....

Wouldnt be a penalty .... but would cripple your cap ... how bad is a question I cant answer for you

OK. That I know. I must have misunderstood what you were saying about the $25M maximum. Yeah, if Romo retires we hit a new level of cap Hell. Since next years salary is guaranteed if he retires post 6/1 we don't save anything on the $20M plus cap hit in 2014 and still have another $20M cap hit in 2015. Seeing as even his current 2014 hit needs to be reduced for us to get under the cap we would absolutely be crippled if that happened.

normal contract though .....

Player x is due 20 million
retires like Sensy did .... split into 2 years of dead money ...

no clue what would happen if a 100 million player did .... Hell I dont even know if the NFL does

No difference as far as the way it works against the cap based on $'s involved in the contract. The Math works the same and the other owners aren't going to allow Jerry to get special treatment if Romo gets hurt. Just another reason to wonder if this contract was smart

IMO, giving a player on the back side of 30 a contract that large is never smart. I remember when Aikman retired due to injury, Jerry paid him for years after retirement.

Agree. Even us Romo Lovers were calling for a three year deal. Some us were even ready to let him play out his final year.
