The Jets are mashing the Colts offense tonight....should be an ugly game once again next week for us.

The problem is that Chip's offense has been figured out by defensive coordinators.

They are running stunts left and right and that is letting defensive linemen run free because they know Chip is always pulling guards and no one will be there to respond. They are also abusing Brent Celek and the other TEs trying to hold the edge blocks, because, again, it is predictable at this point that Philly is going to do those outside sweeps and people are just jumping everything.

Chip thinks that cute little read-option play of his is going to freeze defenses but everyone in the stadium knows Bradford isn't a threat to run and they are just crashing down on the plays with no hesitation.

Chip needs to adjust his offense to keep defenses honest. So far in two games, he has been arrogant, thinking it would work, and it hasn't.
This has been the word on the street today.

The OL is really not that much different from the last two years. All 5 guys and have played and played alot over that time frame and been very successful.
No that is not true at all. 3 of those guys have played a lot. 2 have not played much at all.

This will be a different team next week and everyone will be back on board. Just a bad 1-2 for a new team with high expectations to start with.

Hopefully you are right

At the moment though the Jets D looks pretty stout against the Colts and Marshall looks like he is going to be a handful for the Eagles secondary

Whoever thinks this OL isn't a problem is just fuckin blind and dug themselves a hole from the Mathis thread and is trying to justify their stupidity.

I'm afraid the Jets D is going to tear this O apart. Their front 7 will have a heyday and that secondary will shut down what we have to throw to.

Revis owns Luck. Don't read too much into last night. Sure their D is very good. O's will catch up and these D's wont look like the 85 Bears each week.

I am thinking the problem is not effort or technique as much as schematic.

I don't think the Eagles were fooling anyone yesterday. In the past, Kelly has always talked about having the numbers advantage. Much of getting this advantage revolves around the read option where the decision of where to go with the ball is made POST Snap, and often involves the QB making a split second to pull the ball out of the running backs gut and fire a pass or boot leg. The decision is based on what the defense does on the snap. Part of the beauty isn't it doesn't always have to be a Post Snap read...just often enough to keep the defense guessing.

After the Suggs play in the preseason, my impression is the Eagles have moved away from the Read Option. They are worried about getting Bradford killed, so even though they don't intend to run Bradford much, they are concerned that the read option fake exposes Bradford to getting hit whether he was the ball or not. Without that fake in there, the defense is ending up with the numbers advantage and the mediocre guards are being exposed. I am not convinced that this year's guys are any worse than last year, they are just being asked to play a fair game numbers wise and they aren't up to that task.

Kelly and Bradford need to get over the knee thing and play football. There won't be a next contract for either one to worry about if they don't run this offense the way it was designed. If that exposes the QB to a few more hits, than so be it.

I think both of these are right. Teams are playing one gap and simply beating the back to the hole. They're also running guys across the face of people and sliding a lb in behind them to fill the vacated. Both are completely disrupting the oline. (In one instance barbre can't even get out to on a sweep to block the backside. He goes to move gets bumped and stops, completely. Leaving the backside completely unblocked.) While zone blocking should eliminate that the line is unable to respond. They're not processing fast enough. These plays are getting blown up before they even start.
Whether that's talent, skill, or time together is beyond my ability to analyze. But we've seen what the results are and if they don't get it fixed in the next week or two they're done.
And they aren't running the read-option for the reason as stated. Now the DE, who isn't blocked in the current scheme can continue down the line and make the play from behind. And if they do block him then the second level defense is unblocked.
Teams are running a 4-2 against a five man line so they're not outnumbered. If we add a TE they simply add an lb. If we pass, they have a 4 man rush and seven man coverage v 5 receivers. the tape will show them who the primary receivers are and they're forcing bradford to go down the line of progression to find someone. And again the line isn't holding up.

The plan for a new offensive line is not working. He thought he could pull a NE where they can plug anyone in the oline and it still works. But he doesn't have a warrior like Brady at qb that can compensate for the lack of talent. You can have a scheme but at the pro level if you don't have the talent...

Can he mould the talent in time to save the season?

I see things a little different. Chip has made so many changes that interfere with chemistry. basically there is
no chemistry. With the exception of the defense this team is playing like a playground team that was picked
just prior to playing their 1st game. It takes time for players to gel and have a sense about themselves.
Since Chip is unpredictable they may also wonder who gets canned or traded next. Plus nobody is going to speak their mind do to the Fear of Chips reaction. (he will get rid of you). The offense should improve the more they play together. This is the team he picked and it is up to Chip to fix it. I must admit that I started to have doubts in the early going when he signed Sanchez to that player friendly contract. Sanchez did not deserve it.
Last but not least: Bradford has no emotion at all. Just once I would like to see some enthusiasm!

I agree wholehearted.

Further, it is hard to get chemistry in a game when you spread the ball around to 12 different guys and your #1 WR catches his first ball in the 4th QTR. Other teams are targeting their #1 10-15 times, their #2 8-12 times... we need to stop spreading it around so much that guys are only getting 1-3 balls an entire game. What are the chances that EVERYONE is having a great game on the same day??? I think it's working against us. Good or bad, they need to start letting the guys get into some chemistry together in the passing game.

Also, despite the OL and blocking - it STILL amazes me that just as Murray hits a brick wall, the same way McCoy did last year - SPROLES finds away to bust right thru it. He is our most underutilized player. Loving sproles!

There's not many offenses that would look good behind this o-line right now. There is a lack of cohesiveness on the o-line because there's 2 new players who are starting at the guard position -- these players are not overly talented either. Thee one thing that will help them is building some chemistry and understanding on their assignments and when to peel off and take on different defenders. It's still early enough for them to start building that chemistry, only time will tell if they can. If the o-line starts doing their job, that will open up running lanes for our 3headed monster, which will make the life of the QB easier, and extend drives which will tire out defenses.

Time to execute or shut up. Facing that Jets D with all those aggressive pass rushers will be a big test.

Whats the deal with Eric Rowe? Is he not a part of this defensive scheme?

Almost every play someone screws up. Its not just the OL. Whether it is the QB, RB, WR, TE or OL. They all look badly out of sync.

Best hope is that they will get better but if they keep losing, it wont matter much. We lose this week, how much hope do we really got?

Well if you don't huddle everybody hears the play or sees the handle signals what can you expect. They have hours of film and sound to study.

I doubt it is the signals, it is probably the formations giving everything away.

Whats the deal with Eric Rowe? Is he not a part of this defensive scheme?

He plays special teams. Carroll is the other CB and in nickel, they bring in Maragos and slide Thurmond or Jenkins into the slot.

This is normal development for a rookie. Hopefully, the current scheme is successful and they can afford to give Rowe a year in the system before playing him.

Yeah, the coaching staff had their a$$ handed to them IMO..and they seem fine with blaming the Oline? There are very few guards in this league that will win one on one matchups. They redirect the DLine and get in there way...which is all you need if the defense doesn't know what is coming.

BTW, by all accounts Mathis and Herremans are struggling in their new homes. The guys they kept are just as good as the guys that left.

Just need to stop telegraphing the plays and the Eagles will be fine. That is on the playcaller and the QB.

I think it's more execution than reading plays. They need to execute and run the plays quicker. It looked like we were using the clock on Sunday, and not with the usual fast pace. Face it, the team, including the coaches, were not ready to play, and it boggles the mind why not. Dallas, and home opener, and we played like crap against an undermanned team. No excuses.
