Not so sure that he wasnt already cleared to play by a private physician while at VT but it was the VT doctors that refused. Im not 100% on that but im pretty sure.

Very bleak chance he plays for VT next season. Probably somewhere else. Stinks we could use the talent.

How come there isn't some waiver that he can sign so he could have played each season? It is HIS life. Not the doctor's.

After the Hank Gathers situation, I don't think any school is willing to take the risk. From what I can tell, it was pretty much all Gathers' fault (didn't take the prescribed medication) and yet the family was still able to sue the school and the doctor. Imagine the bad publicity Tech would get if something happened to Chaney.

I get that, but if he is signing off all liability, then what would be the issue?

I don't really know. I might sound stupid, but I feel like VT could still get sued even if he signed a lengthy waiver.

Rep for having a messed up hand

I am missing a knuckle because of that guy. he casted up my hand without putting the bones back where they belonged and before the swelling went down. I couldn't fight in hockey anymore because my right hand was a goddammed paw. I will have to have an operation and the bones re-broken at some point.

Fuck Dr. Siegel, BTW.....

Hack ruined my hand. My hand specialist up here called him and reamed him out for it as well.

Have to boil it down to the basics....

If you can still pick your nose and wipe your butt, you'll be fine.

REALLY???? Dr. Siegel basically rebuilt my right arm when i was 17. I was hit by a construction van. i put my hands out to brace the impact and broke both my arms. My left arm was a simple break but my right arm was all screwed up: radius was shattered and ulna was splintered. The first surgeon said that he could "fix it" but it would never be right again. My family asked for a second opinion and Siegel said that he was confident he could get me back to 100%. He operated and i had a couple office visits (cast changes) and have been fine ever since, i even skipped the months of PT he had recommended.

^when the board is a little slower i will tell the full story of how this happened. CRAZY!

If i get my shoulder looked at that was who i was planning on seeing. I may have to reconsider.

from June:

"Last August’s ruling by Virginia Tech’s sports medicine department has eliminated the possibility of Chaney ever playing for the Hokies, but he said seven schools have inquired about his situation in recent months. Chaney is scheduled to earn his undergraduate degree in apparel, housing and resource management from Virginia Tech next month, which would allow him to play at another school without sitting out a season. He would be classified as a redshirt senior next year."

Former Hokies basketball player Allan Chaney granted medical clearance to resume career - Hokies Journal - The Washington Post
