What about him as a backup to Rawls?
What about him as a backup to Rawls?
The team may bring in another back and may talk it up like it's a competition, but I have a really hard time believing anyone they add has even a remote chance to win the starting job away from Rawls. The only thing that opens the door there is a setback in his recovery from the ankle.I don't think Rawls is a shoe-in as our starter, personally... I believe the coaching staff will bring in another back or two to compete for the starting role...
and no thanks to Alfred... He looked really slow this last season...
Maybe when Griffin ends up in LA with the Rams Alfred will follow suit and back up Gurley.I personally don't think that Morris is the guy we want coming in. He just isn't going to be a reliable back as a 3rd down fill in for Rawls. He's just never been that guy.
At 26, he still has time to return to form, but if he is going to be successful again - it'll be with a team like Seattle or San Francisco (if Kaep returns to starting). He has thrived in Washington with Robert Griffin - even when Griffin played well - but hasn't been very good with anyone else.
with Griffin (36 Games, 16 game average below):
671 carries, 3248 yards, 4.84 ypc, 23 TDs, 22 catches, 197 yards, 8.95 ypr, 0 TD
298 - 1444 - 10 10 - 88 - 0
without Griffin (30 games):
434 carries, 1595 yards, 3.68 ypc, 6 TDs, 25 catches, 168 yards, 6.72 ypr, o TD
231 - 851 - 3 13 - 90 - 0
Just throwing it out there, Chris Ivory? Would he take less money to be our 3rd down passing back or would he also want starter money? I would like to see him as our back up but have a feeling he'll be looking somewhere to start.
I'd take Ivory in a heartbeat. Have always liked him.
Forte would be awesome but zero chance he'd come here. He will probably go with a contender but there are enough teams that could make the playoffs and have the cap room that could afford him.
The problem has been multifolded for Alf with the skins. The move to a more power run scheme, the run blocking issues we had this year due to a new Oline lineup and injuries to almost every TE on our roster. Likely some mileage issues with a bit less burst then before. Also the QB change and offensive schematic change and the lack of utilizing our FB (Darrell Young, who's awesome) to pave the road for him with blocking. Callahan/Jay just don't like using FBs they'd rather use TEsI'm a little surprised how quickly he fell out of favor with the 'Skins.....think he's a good player.
Why pay starter money for a backup?
