Another what if to ponder...

If this guy didn't miss the equivalent of almost 5 NHL seasons (3 of his own volition), he also had the durability that is spoken of and played in both 99's and OV's era the Ovechkin would be chasing him and not 99

I read an article or something by Keith Jones of all people who talked about in a playoff series he was supposed to shadow Jagr. Keith hurt his leg and said for the rest of the series he pretty much just held onto Jagr just slowing him down. And the refs pretty much ignored him. The early 2000s were so bad.

Yeah, if Jagr had the space that some of the other players had it would have been something.

It's why these conversations don't ultimately matter.

Player's durability is part of what sets the record. Pavel Bure, Vladimir Konstantinov,Pat Peake, Pat LaFontaine, Peter Forsberg all could've set huge records too, if only they weren't injured.

You could never really stop Pat Peake. You'd just try to contain him.

The most noteworthy thing I can think of his career was getting his ankle snapped going into the boards one game

God, those endless arguments about the top other players of the Pat Peake era on the ESPN boards. Those were the days.

Plus, think of the energy he wasn‘t playing with from all the love making sessions brought on by that hair. Oh that hair…

821 goals for OV

Wow, so at this point, he needs just two more 37-goal seasons or three 25-goal seasons to pass the Great One. That seems so within reach it's unreal.

Congrats to OV on being alone at the top of the 40-goal season list with 13 seasons. Only 3 other players (Gretzky, Dionne, and Lemieux) even made it to double digits.

I still find it pretty astounding that Bourque would be up there.
