It is only one game. But it isn't a great way to start a 5-game series when a guy like Hamels gets lit up. He's been sturggling for a while now.

Agreed, that rotation has vastly exceeded expectations. Sanchez, Happ and Estrada outperformed their ZiPS projections by a good margin. Stroman had a rough first half (4.89 ERA, 3.88 FIP, 3.71 xFIP) but he's been much better in the 2nd (3.68 ERA, 3.49 FIP, 3.01 xFIP). Dickey was the "weak link" of the rotation and he still pitched better than what most teams get from their #5 spot (and probably #4).
It was a fantastic start by Estrada. Expected nothing less, he was solid last October too.I remember a thread a few weeks ago about 'best Team starters in MLB', I read several pages deep and not one person mentioned Toronto. I mean Estrada arguably could be their number 4, so could Happ who was 20-4, Sanchez probably should have been 22-2 and Stroman finally looks like he has it back. They are the best kept secret in Baseball. Going into the season Stroman was supposed to become the Ace, now all four of them could be.
I suspect Sanchez becomes a star this post season with the spotlight on him. He was dominant all year but didn't get the run support and the pen blew a bunch of games he should have won. He was dominant in his final start and took a no no into the seventh with the season on the line.
That trade, along with the Donaldson deal, are the two best moves Anthopoulos made while running the Jays.lost a shitload of Vcash on the game
fuckin Estrada - how come he didn't pitch like that when he was with the Brewers?

Yeah. You win some big, you lose some terribly. I'll never forgive him for that one.Imagine if we still had Thor and not fucking Dickey.

Yeah, that was disappointing, and a little concerning heading into the series. Oh well. Game two is tomorrow.

Not only that, but they drafted a bust (Deck McGuire) 2 spots before Chris Sale.Sanchez is a stud, but i'm curious how his innings load is going to catch up with him (similar to Pomeranz for the Sox).
Maybe he's a stud and it won't matter. He always had the stuff.
Just think that your guys drafted Sanchez and Thor in the same freaking draft...

They also drafted Kris Bryant but he decided not to sign, not to mention Justin Nicolino, Sam Dyson, Sean Nolin and Dalton Pompey.
One thing AA had going was the scouting dept. The Jays emptied their prospect cupboard twice within a 3 year period and they've still got some pieces in the minors that could turn out alright.
Barreto was an int'l signing in 2012.I remember McGuire.
In their defense, Sale was projected by a lot of scouts as a reliever with that violent motion.
And you left out Barretto, aka the KEY player in the Donaldson trade.
Barreto was an int'l signing in 2012.
He did well in that dept. too, though - signed Hechevarria and Vladdy Jr. who looks like he might be better than his pops.
