Yeah I generally try to be fair but I don't understand the crying. The rule seems pretty clear, it's a ground rule double with runners returned on 2nd and 3rd. Just because we haven't seen a play like this does not change the rule. On the other play it was not clear if Schwarber was standing in the base path, he clearly was standing and didn't step into the runner's path.

Baseball rules are gay. Like they said on MLB network why are we rewarding a bad play?

Umpires got the call right based on the rulebook but that rule is incredibly lame

Definitely a strange rule, but they did get it right based on an accidental deflection. Not that any of this mattered, though, as the Sox scored 2 in the bottom of the inning anyway.

You don't know that. If the Rays got credit for that run it could have rattled Pivetta and he might have given up another hit. Or just the momentum change and different score could have caused the Rays to pitch differently in the bottom of the inning, Vazquez would have been feeling the pressure and clearly Biff would have been washing my car.

Perhaps. But Pivetta struck out the next guy anyway. And did he seem like he was going to be rattled yesterday?? I get it, but I’m glad the Sox scored 2 in the bottom of the inning to make it all a moot point.

Rays will probably start McClanahan on 3 days rest today rather than a McHugh or Wacha start. McClanahan was absolutely filthy in game 1 and he figures to be their best bet in an elimination game.

Yeah I"m just playing devil's advocate. Pivetta was fired up. The best quote was from Kiermeier "I was hoping to see it leave the yard. I got a lot of Snap and Crackle, but no Pop"

2 run bomb made it irrelevant.

They weren’t bunting anyway

And Patino is still out there either way

Tough break but after the bs call on JD drew in 08 I’ll take it.

Not that I’m still bitter over that or anything….

This was a correctly applied rule

Unlike the tuck rule

Which JD Drew one was that? The only thing I remember was when he caught the foul that scored a run, but I think that was a differential year.

The non swing against price that would’ve been ball 4

So much for this! McHugh now listed as the starter tonight.

It's such a shame that most all of the discussion of this great great game was on that one play. Granted it was a huge play and a terrible break for the Rays. And maybe the rule does need to change. But this was just a freak play that most of us have never seen before. It was not nearly as egregious as the other play involving the Rays.

Yeah that was a great game. I really wanted to see what would happen if one of the teams got to their last pitcher and his count got up to 120 or something. Has a position player ever pitched late in a tie game in the playoffs like that?
