From the 2021 MLB Rule Book;

Rule 5.05(a)

(8) Any bounding fair ball is deflected by the fielder into the stands, or over or under a fence on fair or foul territory, in which case the batter and all runners shall be entitled to advance two bases

I never heard anybody even try to explain why Schwarber could just walk right into the path of a runner and send him sprawling without the Red Sox being penalized. For the Rays to also lose a base on that 13th inning play was a really hard screw-over.

This was the rule I was thinking before they called it a ground rule double. I think they get two bases from when it goes out of bounds. Run should score. Batter on third.

I'm curious to know why you hate them?
LOL
No you aren't.

Ftr: I don't *hate them....but I do dislike them.
*Hate is too strong a word.

Plus, I don't really have a stake in this series anyhow, other than I don't want to see the Rays advance.

Same goes for the Asstros and their series with the Chisox.
In fact, I dislike them even more than the Rays.

I didn't watch the game live, but I did catch that on the ESPN recap. The Sox caught a break there for sure.

I love mlb channel. Now we get to see Harold Reynolds re-enact the whole play in full suit. Yeah Harold, we get it. The ball bounced off the guy and over the fence.

5 games tomorrow and 2 of them will be finished around 630 PM EST on a weekday lol.

I wish MLB scheduling was better for these games.

Should have the networks alternate until the LCS. That ruins the scheduling for everyone who actually have to be at work.

My preferred schedule would be something along the lines of this

1st game- 4:30 PM EST
2nd game- 600 PM EST
3rd game- 8 PM EST
4th game 9:30 PM EST

I love the set up.

Gonna make my work day go by real nice. And minimal overlap to channel flip.

Probably Martin Perez . . . <gulp>
Looks like Erod v. McHugh or Wacha??? Hopefully Erod can give them at least 4 good innings for a change.

Tonight was one of the wildest games ever. Sox are making it much more fun than expected a week ago..,,

Apparently you weren't watching the same game as everyone else.. Schwarber didn't "just walk right into the path", he was standing in a spot facing the outfield. The runner was so intent on getting to second that 'he' miscalculated his turn around first base. There was no intention of blocking him, Schwarber was was standing in place.

Rules are retarded only when they don't benefit your team.

TB fans will scream like wounded rabbits forever about misinterpretation of the rules.

Yes, rabbits do screech he you shoot them. They have a voice box that they rarely if ever use.

Yeah I generally try to be fair but I don't understand the crying. The rule seems pretty clear, it's a ground rule double with runners returned on 2nd and 3rd. Just because we haven't seen a play like this does not change the rule. On the other play it was not clear if Schwarber was standing in the base path, he clearly was standing and didn't step into the runner's path.
