If you don't want endless trolling to be a thing, either go along with it and at least act like you don't have an issue with it, or fully and entirely ignore it. BOTH WORK 100%.
I get that he was attacking 'your' thread, but if all of you had put him on ignore. ALL OF YOU. He would have eventually gotten bored of not having any responses and moved on to something else.
What gets me is some of that crew were excited to get away from overbearing moderation, and then complained there wasn't overbearing moderation here. Sure, there's something in between, but in my experience all levels of active moderation eventually get abused. And that comes from someone who has been both a moderator (even here) and a site owner that ended up making decisions at times out of emotion that weren't right.
