I think they can. Their (starting) pitching and offense have both been pretty good. 6-18 in one-run games is shitty luck, especially when you look at how they lost those games.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Phillies will acquire Matt Harrison, Alec Asher, Jerad Eickhoff, Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro and Nick Williams in exchange for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman.
Alfaro, Williams and Thompson are the three best prospects in the deal, and represent a nice return package for the Phillies. The Rangers get another ace to pair with Yu Darvish for the next few seasons as they strive to return to glory in the American League West.
Rangers are dangerous right now with all their pitching coming back and throwing well. Going in to the beginning of the season they were without their #1, #2, and #3 starters (Yu, Holland, Perez). They managed to stay close to .500 till the allstar break, picked up Hamels, and got Holland and Perez back now.
They are a serious contender for the AL West. AND they have Hamels for next season too, so their rotation will look very salty. What looked like a disastrous season is turning into a fine one with a TON of upside for future years.
