Seems like just cash. Sox get a bullpen piece and a pitching prospect for approximately $9M.

And now the Yankees have money for Brett Gardner.

Yay?

Ottavino had a rough 2020 season, when he had a 5.89 ERA in 24 appearances and was a non-factor in the playoffs, pitching just once and allowing a run in ⅔ of an inning in the Yankees’ Game 2 loss to the Rays in the ALDS.

Make him a starter I guess...... Either that or he is going to be one hell of an overworked RP

They (Red Sox) expecting him to be a long reliever? I mean he has to be with the current rotation the Sawx have

I’d take a pass on Gardner....Probably should use the extra $9M to add another shop in the mall......

He's got a world class curveball, but loses the strike zone sporadically. (More than sporadically in 2020)

I think they did this so they could re-sign Gardner. Not saying it's my first choice, but they've got to get a lefty bat in that OF rotation.

He does when it is on. But the problem is he will be used basically 3-4 innings every game

He's a one inning guy. I think the most he ever threw in one appearance for the Yankees was 2 innings, and that only happened once.

Exactly. 1 inning guy.. Almost $9 million when the Red Sox are in dire need of SP and save money and they don't solve either with this signing. He isn't a starter, which means he will have to be used more than one inning since the SP won't last long

Ottavino was a huge disappointment

He has great stuff, but finding the plate is his downfall.....the walks are just brutal.....like 4.0 per 9 innings.....

Yep and i don't remember one good moment from him in the playoffs

this is almost up there with the Lemehiue signing

I’m not a monster fan of the Kluber signing, but the potential to be proven dead wrong on that

otherwise considering the luxury tax thing was very real for the Yankees this offseason, I love what they’ve done
