But that wasn't always the case right?

I thought he was OK a few years ago, though I'll never understand how he won a Gold Glove. He seemed like a pretty average defender before. Defensive metrics like DRS and UZR rate him as a below average for his career, but he wasn't too bad until the last 2-3 years.
