Two of the three were injured at the time....The Fowler kid looked like a player before that horrific accident....The Kaprielian guy looked like a body builder and keeps getting hurt....That approach isn't advised today as the Mets can attest with Thor....I think Gray is capable of a bounce back year, but so far I've been underwhelmed....

They need to make Romine Grays personal catcher, Gray is all about the nasty movement, no one made Sanchez look more like a bumbling idiot back there than Gray

Dustin Fowler expected to win the opening day job for the A's in CF

Jorge Matteo rising through the ranks

No word on Kaperlin

Thats the one deal for Gray i thought we gave up a lot, and could end up getting us in the end

Wait a few years. Mateo still has a lot of risk and Kaprielian has thrown 56 professional innings and missed the entire 2017 season.. and he turns 24 soon. And even Fowler's aggressive approach could make things difficult.

Right, I mean, even after trading those guys and graduating Judge/Montgomery/Frazier, they're still the #2 farm system in baseball.

I still do that trade 10 times out of 10.
They almost had to....I liked Fowler, but what was/is his ceiling? Where was he going to ever fit in or play with the team the Yanks have now? Mateo? where was he going to play....SS? Not happening with Didi there for a while as well....Cashman took a shot and we'll see how it works out, Gray gives the Yanks close to 200 innings pitched and I'll be happy.....As long as it's not a Ray Burris 200....

as long as Gray's healthy, I think he'll be reliably good. He keeps the ball on the ground and I don't think he'll have to worry too much about home runs at YS3. Probably more in line with 2017 than 2013/14, but still good.

I just don't think it's a trade worth stressing over... at least not right now. Just like the Pomeranz trade, everyone thought the Sox had traded Pedro 2.0 away. Espinoza could still end up being really good, but there's a real possibility he ends up in the bullpen.

Just need him to be a serviceable #3 at this stage. Be nice if they could play defense and score for him this year.

Pomeranz and Kimbrel FA's after '18

Doubt they pay Kimbrel big if he has another great season, Pomeranz may be worth a pretty nice investment if he repeats 2017

I'm with you on Kimbrel, how much are you really gonna give that guy? He's great, but closers are a dime a dozen.

As for Pomeranz, I think there's a link to the JD Martinez possibility there. If they sign JD to 5/125, and let Pomeranz and Kimbrel go, I think they look at a starter to replace Drew. They won't have to be players in the market for a bat if they sign Martinez, so I think they go after a bigger fish in the SP market like Keuchel depending on how he does this year. If they don't sign Martinez, they should be players for a bat while trying to lock up Pomeranz on a "smaller than Keuchel" type deal.

Makes sense, how old is Pomeranz? Either way, he seems like a guy that has really corralled all that potential he always came with, and no matter the season, will probably come cheaper than the Keuchel types after '18

He turned 29 back in November. He hasn't thrown too many major league innings (636).

29, about 10 months younger than Keuchel.

Sox rotation is going to be interesting to watch. On paper, looks very, very good, but there has to be some concern with how Price bounces back. I assume Sale will be fine, but he got knocked around pretty good in September and October.

His history is to get knocked around in September, i guess throwing 105 all summer at 105 lbs may have something to do with it...I believe his September ERA career wise is in the mid 3's

Keeping Sale fresh may be the most important job Alex Cora has this season

No doubt. I don't remember the Red Sox ever having such a lefty heavy rotation. Should serve them well in the Bronx. Not so much in the place they're going to play 81 games. :)

Yup. Last year drove me crazy when Carl Willis said "well this is the first year we've had him, so it's tough to gauge how he'll do at the end of the season."

Hey...Carl
