Strange how Baltimore owns Boston at Fenway....and Boston owns Baltimore at Camden.

The series is now tied 8-8 on the year with neither team winning a home series.

If Boston wins one more, the whole season will end without a home series win by either team.

Odd statistic.
Well let's just keep our fingers crossed that doesn't happen.

yankee fans on here are beyond delusional. A team with a 200 mill payroll, had no significant injuries, you have to take out a mortgage on your home to take family to a game and no playoffs.... and, AND you're a seller??? and AND AND, there are posters on here saying they should have not been in any position during any part of year tooooooooooooooo make playoffs.... scary!!
Salary means nothing. Almost $100million was tied up to ARod, Teixeira, Sabathia, and Ellsbury.

Sox will leave Baltimore up by at least three games on the O's. Ortiz wasn't far from having two home runs tonight... his popup earlier looked like it probably went off the end of the bat.

How much support should Sanchez get for ROY?

IMO it still belongs to the pitcher in Detroit(I am drawing a blank on his name, want to say Fuller). But with Sanchez hitting his 18th HR and adding 4 hour RBIs to get to 37 already tonight, he is getting closer.

2.7 WAR in only 42 games before tonight is a lofty number. But a small sample.

Orioles are hexed versus Boston in Maryland
They look great in Boston and inept at home.

it makes no sense how poorly they play at home versus Boston versus the road.
They cannot complete an easy 4 foot throw to first base for the 3rd out.

Allow 5 unearned runs after screwing up an easy toss to 1st......trail 5-1 now.

I think it's Naquin, Fulmer, and Sanchez now. Also Devenski from Houston

It's a really underwhelming AL class. NL has been far more impressive, even though Seager's blowing the competition out of the water. Gray, Maeda, Turner, Matz, Diaz, Story and others have had some very good rookie campaigns.

In fact, the only "obvious" awards seem to be NL MVP (Bryant) and NL RoY (Seager).

I think the voters get swayed by the gaudy W/L Record Porcello has.

I expect it to have some influence on the vote, but not nearly to the extent that it would a decade ago.

Even ignoring Porcello's W-L, his other stats still make him a viable candidate:

3.08 ERA (2nd in AL)
0.98 WHIP (1st)
7.56 H/9 (5th)
1.24 BB/9 (2nd)
210.7 IP (4th)
3 complete games (t-3rd)
0.94 HR/9 (6th)
6.00 K/BB (1st)
17.4% K-BB% (9th)
5.1 bWAR (4th)
4.7 fWAR (4th)
3.44 FIP (4th)
3.89 xFIP (13th)

BB-Ref does have Kluber leading the AL in WAR at 6.6 (Tanaka's 2nd at 5.5). Fangraphs, however, has him tied at 5.2 with Sale. Verlander's 7th at 4.4, so everyone's bunched together (even Price, he's among the top AL pitchers in FIP/xFIP/innings pitched). Of course Fangraphs' WAR for pitchers can be very wonky. Not sure you're gonna find a lot of people that believe Pineda was more valuable than Hamels.

CYA or not, Porcello's been a lot of fun to watch (especially considering he lived fairly close to me). He's been about as consistent as it gets (5+ innings every start, has never given up more than 5 runs). His last 11 games have been amazing (84.2 innings (7+ every start), 2.34 ERA, 56 hits, 66/5 K/BB).

And that's kinda the point - other stats will usually tell you what the W/L does anyway. Using W/L as a component for determining Cy Young winners is just lazy journalism.
