So who is it going to be guys ? I think it will come down to Scherzer & Darvish. Sale is the best pitcher in the league I've seen this year and unfortunately the Tigers face him again today. But the only time a starter with an iffy W/L record has won it was when King Felix just dominated the competition in all of the important metrics. Sale doesn't. In fact nobody leads in more than a couple.

Scherzer edges Darvish.

I think I have to add Iwakuma to the mix. He betters Darvish in ERA and WHIP, though just barely.

Clay Buchholz

Buchholz and Lester will probably win a few between them in coming years,
but probably not this year. I could easily live with being proven wrong on
the latter as a Red Sox fan, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

A long-shot possibility is my team's current closer, Koji Uehara. He has been unreal
this season.

How do you figure Lester will win a few CYAs in the coming years?

None of those guys will get a single vote.

You haven't watched him as much as I have.

He's a lefty unfazed by Fenway Park, among other things.

Injury problems and an INCOMPETENT manager last year messed up his win percentage,
but he's still very good.

Last night,he became only the 3rd lefty to win 100 games with the Red Sox!
That sounds like CYA to me.

Buchholz's injury problems came THIS season, but he appears to have gotten past them.

So that makes him a contender in coming years? Sorry, that really isn't a very strong argument. This is why W-L records have become so devalued in recent years. The guy wins games and has had a couple of pretty good seasons but most of his other numbers aren't worthy of any consideration. ERA, WHIP, IP, H/9Innings. Sometimes good are ok but not spectacular. 09 and 10 were good K years but other than those, not much to see. Don't mistake me for some hater, I happen to like Lester but he isn't among the elite in baseball, IMO.

If you're not convinced I can live with it.

As for the thread topic, it seems to me that it might be Scherzer with Darvish and Iwakuma after that. This may be a case where the wins actually come into play a little or just winning the division with JV having such a down year and Scherzer really carrying the load. Who knows though. I rarely get my picks right which is why I never gamble.:lol:

Scherzer is the frontrunner with Darvish behind him and Iwakuma next in line.
But honestly, we all know that the voters aren't going to go for Iwakuma.

Lol.

And a relief pitcher should never win it.

Buchholz has had injury problems in previous seasons too. He's never made 30+ starts in a season and he's thrown 180+ innings only twice.

It should go to Sale IMO, but I see Scherzer winning it. They're both very deserving IMO.

Speaking of Sale and deserving better, 7 2/3 innings of shut-out great pitching in Detroit and the Sox leading 6-0 and they somehow cough it up in the 9th and lose in extras. Just sad.
