The tigers are paying phil fuckin coke 1.9 million to not get lefties out? And we traded fister to save money? What am i missing?

Hey man...I think just about everyone is scratching their head over this one, except maybe jalopy and iffy whereever he is (because if the majority agree on something iffy will always disagree). Im disturbed by the financial aspect, the fact that you dont trade a legitimate stud starting pitcher for relatively nobody, and the fac that they had to trade away their top prospect to land a starting pitcher who is arguably very similar to fister.

In an article on mlive today they say alvarez is going to be more of a starter....i would rather have below in there than coke....but yeah....lefthanded hitting teams will enjoy facing us.

If alvarez makes the team it will probably be as long relief, fans should know what long relief means. Hes not that good.

Also I read it as you would rather have blow in there than coke the first time, ha.

I havent played roto either. You will have to check out what scores you get for different stats. I have to do that myself as well. I would also access the waiver wire quite often in H2h for two start pitchers with decent matchups.

Yeah i would make sure to be the first guy online on monday for first pick at the weeks 2 start pitchers....didnt care about their names...just who they pitched for and against....and stacked my lineup with stud hitters.....got lucky last year and picked the kid from miami up...now hes a stud....be an early pick this year....

And with the first pick in round 2 dougie drafts phil coke........

Long relief means mop up duty....

Yeah iffy always went against the majority....wonder what hed do this year since some of us arent happy with the offseason moves....he might have great things to say....but yeah dumping fister and paying coke makes no sense....even if coke gets cut before the season starts it costs us half a million....thats alot for a team that supposedly has money issues now.

Wouldve felt better if they added one decent vet in the BP.....but instead we get jobu coke....

Rondon needs to be pretty much lights out which Im skeptical of due to how young he is, the fister trade also pulled smyly from the pen, again making no sense.
Ive said it before and Ill say it again, I think DD's biggest weakness is his lack of adding viable resources to the pen.

Yeah, Anibal Sanchez was great last year, but career ERA is about the same as Fister's and Sanchez spent most of his career in the NL. By locking up Sanchez for $15 mill a season on a 5-year contract, they basically screwed themselves financially for Fister and lost Jacob Turner in the process.

I understand when you're in win-now mode, you go for the experienced guy, so it's a bit of 20/20 hindsight now that the Tigers did not win a World Series in 2012-13. But Fister/Turner + Smyly in the bullpen would look a little better to me right now than Sanchez/Smyly and the crap LHPs our pen has now.

Not a hockey fan but i couldve sworn it wasnt too long ago the wings were a relatively low seed and were semi successful in the playoffs. Im not being sarcastic, I really dont know but it sure sounds familiar.

Lol you're right. The wings have been greats for years.

It's just fun giving Dougy shit every possible second

And since I've known Dougy on these boards the wings haven't done a whole lot so I mess with the guy.

I agree.....the 2 biggest factors on the tigers are nicky c and rondon.....if theyre both solid then the tigers will be ok....just look at the era of our guys in the pen last year.....joba? Coke? Below? Rondon? Krol? AL AL? Nathan was the only one under 3.00.....and he wasnt a tiger.....then subtract smyly and benoit who were both good in the pen.....for a team hunting for a WS, the pen scares me.....but i guess alot of tiger fans say give em time and our problem wasnt the pen, but our inconsistant offense.....so we will see.....if the pen does their job, ill eat my crow happily.

Cleeves, you probably could serve up some tasty crow, right? (Chef?). I wasn't exactly excited about Nathan. He's old, and that's a lot of money for a guy that doesn't pitch unless you're ahead. But I still lean on the idea that nothing is easier to fix than a bullpen. PotatoHead was awful last year, Benoit was good, I expect Nathan will be good also. But if we have nothing but problems from the other members, mid season trades are easy to pull off for bullpen help. Coke is terrible and I hope he's cut before April, for the record. (This isn't the first year I've said that.)

Yeah id prolly just grill the crow....anythings good on the grill lol.....yeah i hope the pen gets us through to august....coke is still on roster....had to be cut yesterday to save 200k......if he makes opening day roster he gets 1.9 million...if cut 500k.....damn i shouldve played baseball instead of football.....i can serve up dingers.

Ill feel more comfortable come the 9th inning tho.....just gotta get there.

Tigers just added an insurance run, took a two run lead into the ninth. Boom, two run homer, games tied up. Another blown save. We're not even safe in the 9th! (Ortega won't be closing though). Extra innings in the Grapefruit League, nice.

Sounds like Detroit is going to go up against Shields Vargas and whoever wins the job 3rd rotation spot between Duffy and Ventura. So far, it looks like Ventura might be in the lead despite service time concerns.

The old tigers used to do good against the power hard throwing pitchers and struggled vs the crafty junk pitchers.....we will see how the new tigers do this year....shields usually pitches well vs detroit....its great these 2 start the season off.....i think its gonna be a 2 team race.....closer than alot of detroit fans seem to think....KC BP will keep them in it....if the offense clicks, look out....

Lot of worried little spartys in east Lansing.Izzo just looks like he is getting out coached.esp against the mighty wolverines. I think we can stop trying to pass off applying as a GOOD player. He just isn't that good..oh Luke.

Sore wrist my A%$. You have to figure sparty players have strong wrists...have you seen how ugly the girls are in east Lansing??????like they all got hit with the ugly stick

Not this Detroit fan. I said several pages back that KC's pitching will keep them close.
