No you weren't, I said a conditional 3rd and possibly a 4th. Gotta give it to you though you're quite creative when you want to support points that ONLY you have made.

Besides that, remember I bought his name up a year ago, before even GM's caught on to him....well maybe not Cincy.

The Boston Herald reports the Patriots are exploring veteran quarterback options "in the event that they trade backup Jimmy Garoppolo."

As beat reporter Jeff Howe writes, "For a team that allegedly isn’t going to trade (Garoppolo), the Patriots surely aren’t acting like it." If New England deals Garoppolo and signs a veteran like Josh McCown, that veteran would compete with Jacoby Brissett to back up Tom Brady. Howe acknowledges the price to acquire Garoppolo remains high. "One working theory is the Patriots want at least a first- and second-round draft pick in return for Garoppolo, but it’s unclear if that’s even enough," Howe wrote.

The trade market for Qb's looks crazy. A 1 and a 2 for Gap? That is nuts.

I still say go after this guy, he upgrades the position. Immediately resign him to a long term contract which can be easily done especially if you consider the fact that his original contract expires after this upcoming season. He is scheduled to make (base salary) $690,000 this year. Total original contract (four-year, $2,401,652).

I really want to hear concrete arguments as to why we shouldn't go this route, with or without Kirk. Seriously, "I don't think so" is not an argument.

I know it never happens in the NFL, but if we could do a 3-way trade where Washington gets Jimmy G, another team gets Cousins, and New England gets a bushel of that team's 2nd round picks, I'd do that. We'd save a ton of money for the next 2 seasons and have a younger QB with (I think) a higher upside.

This QB class in the draft is not good. None of those guys will be ready to play.

Plus someone who has been in the league/system for a few years now, gotten good NFL coaching and has proven they can play and play well NOW (Grap/Cousins), its no wonder the price is steep for players with experience.

FOs, coaching staffs and their fans (ours being a prime example) simply do not have the luxury of time or certainly patience to break in a drafted QB over the course of 2, 3 even 4 years. We want to win, and win now.

If the Patriots are that high on Grap, they should figure out a way to keep him. Brady won't be around but for another 2-5 years, Grap could just slide right in when he left.

I heard something awhile back on Mike and Mike about the 2 splitting time over the course of the season. Giving Brady rest by playing Garoppolo possibly before and/or after a bye week...maybe another game or two here or there against am inferior opponent. Sounds crazy, but I think it genius.

Absolutely agree, Garp is the heir apparent and IMHO likely sooner than Brady in his battle against father time would like. Like you've said, this is not a strong QB class in terms of immediate readiness, if Kirk is gone we have to explore options with guys with some NFL experience. Good post!

He won't be that cheap. He'd be better off just waiting to hit FA. Plus we have to trade a 2nd at least probably. In short if we trade for him he needs to be our starter which is a problem because I'm pretty sure he's not very good at football.

I actually agree he wont be that cheap. His agent likely would tell him he is better off playing out the rookie contract if he gets traded. Worst case he gets tagged and puts himself in a position much like Kirk is now.

And for all the love he is being shown, there i always the chance he is the next Cassell/Oswieler.

Dude has already publicly stated that he wants to play there or somewhere now. He has to figure that where ever he ends up it's going to be in a difficult place. Given those places, ours is among the best of 'em. Pretty sure a new contract will be part of his move. I get it, it's Kirk or bust, maybe they're ultimately the same thing because for every negative supposition that you write about the possible alternatives, the same thing can be said about Kirk!

The Kirk-haters really have a lot of screws loose.

Why trade for AJ McCarron when Jason Campbell is a free agent? QB's are easy to find.:pound:

They dont hate Kirk, they just think we can easily find some one better. Or thats the running theory any way.

Patrick Ramsey is available as well so it can't be too hard.
