Just to be clear. . I'm in no way saying he is suddenly absolved in my eyes. . The guy is still a flaming idiot. But by letter of the law (and the cba) says he should be allowed back in, so if it'll help my team, so be it. I can hate the guy after week 17

Oh, I'm not saying you are... I get the CBA and all but in reality this dude just got a slap on the wrist imo. I just don't see how any other team besides the Vikings can "sell it" to their fans about keeping him or getting him on their team.

I drafted him but dropped him mid-October when it was looking like this court stuff was going to drag out for the entire season. I'm hoping I can get him because he's the only shot I have now after my other backs have underperformed. There aren't any good options out there and no one in my league trades (bunch of bitches) so its worth a shot for me to pick him up in hopes he can play.

Care to expand on the why?

the public crap storm that followed him.....they dusted things under the rug by paying him his salary to shut up.......the vikes are done with him, and any team that takes him immediately is gonna be crucified.......no ones gonna do it, the jets? they can get him in the offseason........

hes gotta get off the commisioners exempt list, then the vikes need to decide what they are doing......

i dont think that all comes quickly, league already said they have no timetable

Well they paid him because it was the only legal way to not play him, not to shut him up, and the Vikes have publicly softened their stance on him recently, including the head coach and GM. The league, and the Vikes have no legal grounds to stand on to keep from reinstating him. . Hell it took an under the table deal to "suspend" him to start with. He, for good or bad, has every right to play this week.

I'll be honest with you and I don't say this very often, but whether he plays or not, I refuse to own him. I don't care if he could win me a championship, some things are more important than fantasy football.

Fair enough Bandit..I have a slight feeling of that as well. Hell, somewhere on this board I said I hope he never plays again.

I know, it's such a fine line. Hell I drafted Josh Gordon in 3 leagues this year and he's been sitting on my bench all year in all of them waiting for him to come back and he's as big a dumbass as anybody else.

I agree. It's week 10 all ready and the league moves slow. I doubt that any team will want the PR for a small handfull of games from a guy out of football shape, not to mention his salary.

I won't waste a roster space for him.

There's nothing in the "conduct detrimental" policy that specifies any punishment limits at all, and no mention of whether something is a misdemeanor versus a felony. "Conduct that imposes inherent danger to the safety and well being of another person" doesn't even have to be a crime to qualify.

That said, the league could fine AP six-weeks pay and suspend him from play for six weeks and count those six weeks as already served. That might seem reasonable. Actually a confusing precedent, but Goodell doesn't seem to have any sense on that score.

According to the waiver rules, if AP is claimed he could declare free agency at the end of the season, so he holds no appeal to the bottom-feeder teams who might get a crack at him. I think the first team that might want him this season would be the 3-5 Giants.

But he'd also be a great fit for the Vikings. As the heat has blown over a little, and if the Ravens are hung out to dry this week for overreacting on Rice, the Vikings might take the "we want to help Adrian" approach and play him.

Well he and his attorney are of the belief that he's good to go for week 11. I honestly don't see any reason. . Outside of personal/moral objections that they can stand on, which won't hold up against the union, and if the lawyer is already chirping, they'd better find something quick or just reinstate the guy. Already being sued by Rice, and by all accounts that isn't going their way either

I was 5th on waivers but still managed to get him. From examining things with all the legal stuff and CBA stuff, if I'm the NFL, I stop pussy footing around and reinstate him. It's not worth jumping through legal hoops to just to punish because of public moral outrage. Put the call on the Vikings shoulders to either cut him or play him. At least that's what I think is gonna happen so that's why I picked him up

I have to admit that your reasoning is very logical. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

I wouldn't read much into that. The NFL has been burned by doing things informally and behind doors lately regarding discipline, and maybe they're learning their lesson.

A reasonable precedent would be that if somebody's on the exempt list and afterwards the league hands down a suspension, weeks missed on the list count against the suspension, but will be accompanied by a fine equal to the number of penalized weeks accounted for that way.

But the NFL has been slow to see reason and Goodell likes to do discipline by whim and fiat, so who knows?
