When his current contract expires.

If there are any Yankees fans left in here, i'd imagine they're happy about this, because it gets them one year closer to erecting his statue in Monument Park

So he's going with a two season farewell tour?

Makes sense. He was bout twice as good as Jetes.

That's too far away to think about. I'm gearing up for Ramiro Mendoza Day in August. Last year I actually got a little teary at the Luis Sojo ceremony

There's the worst kept secret around. "I'm going to retire as soon as they're no longer obligated to pay me."

It amazes me that this is big news

"Arod will retire at 43 years old"

yeah no shit

It would be big news to me if he said he was walking away from the $30 million the Yankees owe him for next season

I never thought it was possible, but with the pending David Ortiz farewell tour planned, I guess Arod deserves to be honored

Now he's already backing off of these comments. Jason Giambi stuck around for like three years as strictly a pinch hitter for NL teams. If AROD gets within 20 or so by the time his contract ends (barring injury, he will) I fully expect him to hang around for the record.

Well sitting out that year for his suspension likely helped him perform as well as he did in 2015....during the suspension, he had had surgery to repar to his hip that's been bothering him for several years, and took 2014 to to rehab/regain strength after the surgery.
