Had they asked whether IPW can lift 100 pounds over his head, no doubt the results would have been different. Perhaps substantially so.

I think people wouldn't mind the game ending in a tie after regulation provided they get to see me lift 100 pounds over my head as the new OT.

watching IPW lift 100 pounds over his head is fun to watch too, but probably shouldn't decide the outcome of a hockey game...

just like a shootout shouldnt...

The outcome of the game would be a tie at that point, and the lifting of 100 pounds would give the fans something to cheer about to make them forget that no one won the game.

There is the potential danger, though, of having multiple ties in multiple venues and you cannot be in all those places at one time.

^^^^this never been A fan of games being decided by A skill competition.I'm not saying its not entertaining but games shouldnt be decided on a press gimmick. To me its no different than deciding the outcome of A game with A fight, race or other one on one competition.I would much rather the teams earned their points or settled for a tie

Another reason I cannot get interested in soccer. You play a game for two hours and then set the ball in front of a ludicrously gigantic net where the goaltender's only hope is that the shooter sneezes the same time his foot makes contact with the ball.

I have said before, and will say again, that when my team wins in a shootout I dont feel like we really won, and when my team loses a shootout, I dont feel like we really lost. That shootout is just for the second point.

They are going nowhere because of the excitement it generates.

The flip side to the "I dont want a skills competition deciding a NHL game" is the argument that if you leave the game tied past 65 minutes, then you deserve to allow the game to be decided on something as silly as a shootout. Besides, we all know games all the time are decided by something stupid like a weird bounce or a bad call.

Oddly enough, in soccer the shootout only happens in the playoffs in basically every level/league. During the season they just end in draws, and in many levels without overtime. In the playoffs they play a full 30 minutes, not sudden death. At least, I think it's 30...whichever, it's a long time. I hate soccer shootouts even more, although they are so freaking exciting to watch in person. I was the trainer for our college's mens soccer team this year, and our first round playoff game went to a shootout...the goalies were tripping on something and making saves left and right. Went up to 5 shooters, our goalie only let in ONE.
